Step-by-step on using the Nurture Assistant for grading student work and generating feedback as a teacher.

There are 4 ways to use the Nurture Assistant

1. If a Student Has Submitted a Typed Assessment

Steps At a Glance

Open and review the student's submission.

Navigate to 'Review Submission' to access the Nurture Assistant's analysis. The Assistant will provide detailed feedback on each learning outcome, highlighting areas that require attention.

Engage with the Nurture Assistant by agreeing in the chat or giving additional context. For instance you can say, “I agree with your suggestion but I believe the student has improved significantly since the last submission”.

The Assistant will commence grading based on learning outcomes and curriculum boundaries. Confirm the grade or offer further context to adjust it. For example, you can request a breakdown of marks like "Purpose /8, Coherency /8, Language /8, and Mechanics /1."

Upon agreeing with the Assistant, the grade will be populated in the ‘marks input field’. If you provide additional context, the Assistant will consider it and adjust the response accordingly.

The Assistant will generate a personalised comment based on its analysis of the document, the learning outcomes that need to be addressed, the students’ submission comment and the curricular documents uploaded in settings. Review this comment. Confirm it by replying in the affirmative with statements like “Yes” or “I agree”.

To adjust the personal comment further, simply continue conversing with the Nurture Assistant. For instance, you can request readability adjustments based on the students’ reading age, or ask the assistant to recognise the students’ improvement since their last assessment.

The Assistant will populate the 'personal comment' section on the left-hand side. You can edit the comment further in this section if you wish.

Select ‘Mark as Reviewed’ and proceed to the next student.

For example, you can request the Nurture Assistant breakdown the marks for English assessments into “Purpose: /8 Coherency: /8 Language: /8 Mechanics: /1”

If you wish, you can create ‘Learning Outcome Feedback’ which will also be pushed out to the relevant students before finally publishing your feedback.

Click on ‘Upload Student’s Work’ and upload the relevant file from your device.

Scroll down to find the Nurture Assistant, which will start analysing the student’s work. Allow the Nurture Assistant to finish its analysis before chatting/engaging with it.

Follow steps 3-9 as above to create feedback and assign a grade

😀 Tip! Ask the students to upload their confidence score in the Nurture app before you create their feedback, even if you are uploading the work on their behalf.

Ensure that you have chosen 'Allow paper submissions or online through Nurture' when setting up the assessment. If not, you can edit the assessment to make the necessary changes.

Review the paper submissions from the students.

Scroll down to 'Review Submission'. The Nurture Assistant will automatically open the conversation with the following message or similar: “I don't have this student’s work to help me create feedback but if you can give me more context I can help create personal feedback with you”.

Choose the Learning Outcomes that require feedback from the student. Wait for the Assistant to generate feedback with this context.

For grading the student’s work, you can manually grade the work and enter the marks in the designated section. Alternatively, you can involve the Assistant in grading by providing further context, like “the student has written a good amount. Their points are not clear and they have struggled with the learning outcomes mentioned. What grade would you suggest?”

Consider the grade suggested by the Assistant. If you agree, confirm it. If not, assign the grade you believe is most appropriate or offer more context to the Assistant.

Remember to mark the submission as reviewed and proceed to the next student. Then select the grouped 'learning outcome' feedback and publish it.
