Description

As a leading app in maximising teacher efficiency, Nurture is built to integrate with the tools that you are currently using, including Microsoft Teams. Teachers who are already familiar with using Teams for setting assessments and homework may already have several different teams for each of theirr class groups. If that sounds like you, great! You can skip past this article and jump straight to adding Nurture to one of your existing classrooms.

However, if you are new to Microsoft Teams, you must first setup a teams channel and add your students to it before you can install Nurture.

What type of user is this article for?

This article is for teachers using Microsoft Teams to access Nurture.

Step-by-step instructions

1. On Microsoft Teams, click 'Join or Create Team'

Microsoft Teams window on the main teams tab

2. Click on 'Create team'

Microsoft Teams window on the main teams tab when the user is trying to create a new team.

3. Click on 'Class' to set up a new team for your class group.

You can use any other template if you wish and Nurture will still work the same. Some teachers may set up a team where they are the owner and they add other staff as members so they can try Nurture out from both the teachers side and the students side.

πŸ’‘ Tip!

If you already have another team in Microsoft Teams already setup with Nurture and you want to create a new team, you can save a few clicks by:

  1. Selecting 'From another team' on the left side of your screen.

  2. Select which existing team you want to base your new team on.

  3. Rename it if you wish.

  4. Select the checkbox to add the same Members (students) if you wish

  5. Finally, click 'Create'.

and just like that, your new team is setup with Nurture already added!

4. Click 'Use this template'. If you have more options than this on your screen, this should not impact this step. Nurture can be installed to any team or any template once you are the owner of that team.

5. Name your team and click 'Create'. You can add a description to let people know what this team is about at this point if you want, but this is optional.

6. Start adding your students to this team by searching for them by name. If your student does not automatically appear in the dropdown, you must type out their full email address to add them.

As you can see in this example, by default each user added is a Member of the team. This will let Nurture know they are students. However, you can change any of these users to become an Owner of the team and this will let Nurture know they are teachers. By changing Sebastian to an owner, this will give him access as a teacher later on in Nurture.

Once you have added all the students you need in this class, click on 'Add'

7. And that is it! You have successfully created your team.

Troubleshooting & F.A.Q

Why do I need to add my students to a microsoft team before installing Nurture?

Nurture needs to be able to read the class list from the teams channel it is installed to so we can clearly identify who is a teacher and who is a student. Each user type will have a slightly different view of Nurture.

If you create a new team, you will be that team owner.

If you add one of your students to that team, they will become a member.

πŸ’‘ Tip!

Any owners of a Microsoft Team will identified as a Teacher on Nurture. Any member of a Microsoft Team will be identified as a student.

I can't create a team on Microsoft Teams...

If you cannot see the option to create a new team on your Microsoft Teams, contact your schools IT admin who is resposible for your schools Office365 account. They will be able to investigate if there is any issue with yourr account on your schools tenant.

I cannot add my students when creating a team...

Your students may not automatically appear when you search for them by name. Try to search by their full email address and they should appear to add them as a member.

However, if you only have the option to add someone as a guest, then that user is most likely not in your schools tenant.

Some schools have teachers in one tenant, for instance :

teacher@schoolname.com

but students may have a differrent email address like this :

studentID@student_schoolname.com

If students use Microsoft Teams on a different domain they are probably in a different Microsoft Teams tenant and you will only be able to add them as a guest. They will still appear in Nurture, but they may not be able to access Nurture as they are on a different tenant.

If this is the case, contact your schools IT admin who is resposible for your schools Office365 account. They will be able to investigate if students on one tenant can access Nurture on another tenant.
