Otherwise, check out the table of instructions below and each step with an accompanying screenshot.
Navigate to the relevant assessment. | |
2. | Choose the relevant student and select 'Review'. |
3. | Open the student's submission using the 'Open' button and review their work. |
4. | Scroll down to 'Review Submission'. On the left-hand side, you'll see the learning outcomes for this assessment and space for 'Marks' and the student's 'Personal comment'. On the right-hand side, you'll see the Nurture Assistant. |
5. | Like other AI or Chat GPT tools, the Nurture Assistant will converse with you, like a human to help you in your grading and feedback. If the student work has been uploaded, the Nurture Assistant will display its analysis, giving an overview of the student's performance against the learning outcomes and will ask for your input. If the student work has not yet been uploaded, the Nurture Assistant will ask for the work to be uploaded. |
6. | Consider the Nurture Assistant's analysis and respond with your own judgements, as you would if you were having a conversation. This is referred to as a 'prompt'. Examples of commonly used prompts include, 'I agree', or 'I agree but I think this student has done really well on the third learning outcome for their ability' etc. etc. The Nurture Assistant is fully flexible and can be adjusted based on your judgements in this way. |
7. | The Nurture Assistant will read your reply and automatically toggle the learning outcomes the student needs feedback on on the left-hand side of the 'Review Submission' screen. |
8. | The Nurture Assistant will then begin grading the student work. You may once again instruct the Nurture Assistant as though you were having a conversation. Examples of commonly used prompts include, 'I agree', 'please grade the student by breaking down the marks according to...', 'for this student's ability, I think they deserve more marks in x as they have worked really hard' etc. etc. |
9. | When the marks have been set, the Nurture Assistant will populate them in the 'Marks' section on the left-hand side. If you have selected a rubric assessment, the Nurture Assistant will select the marks according to your rubric. |
10 | Select the 'Mark as Reviewed' button at the bottom of the screen to save these marks and your personal comment. Select 'Next' to toggle to the next student Tip! Use the 'add attachments' function to add sample answers or other resources that might be helpful to the student to personalise their experience even further. |

Step-by-step guide
Open and review the student's submission.
2. Navigate to 'Review Submission' to access the Nurture Assistant's analysis. The Assistant will provide detailed feedback on each learning outcome, highlighting areas that require attention.
3. Engage with the Nurture Assistant by agreeing in the chat or giving additional context. For instance you can say, “I agree with your suggestion but I believe the student has improved significantly since the last submission”.
✅ Tip! Providing context enhances the Assistant’s accuracy for future assessments
4. The Assistant will commence grading based on the learning outcomes the student needs to address and the curriculum boundary. Confirm the grade or offer further context to adjust it. For example, you can request the Nurture Assistant breakdown the marks for English assessments into “Purpose: /8 Coherency: /8 Language: /8 Mechanics: /1”
5. The grade will be populated in the ‘Marks’ input field. If you provide additional context, the Assistant will consider it and adjust the response accordingly.
6. The Assistant will generate a personalised comment based on its analysis of the document, the learning outcomes that need to be addresses, the students’ submission comment and the curricular documents uploaded in settings. Review this comment. Confirm it by replying in the affirmative with statements like “Yes” or “I agree”.
7. To adjust the personal comment further, simply continue conversing with the Nurture Assistant. for instance, you can request readability adjustments based on the students’ reading age, or ask the assistant to recognise the students’ improvement since their last assessment.
8. The Assistant will populate the 'personal comment' section on the left-hand side. You can edit the comment further in this section if you wish.
9. Select ‘Mark as Reviewed’ and proceed to the next student.
⚠️ Please Note! Feedback is not yet published for the student. You must repeat this process for each individual student and then publish your feedback at the bottom of the ‘Assessment’ page. If you wish, you can create ‘Learning Outcome Feedback’ which will also be pushed out to the relevant students before finally publishing your feedback.

How to Optimize Results with the Nurture Assistant
Bilingual Feedback
If you have students who speak English as a foreign language, or if you are a language teacher aiming to enhance your students' fluency with bilingual feedback, the Nurture Assistant is here to help!
During your feedback process, simply prompt the Nurture Assistant to "provide feedback in both English and [target language]." The Nurture Assistant will then generate bilingual feedback as instructed.
Marking Criteria
To make grading with the Nurture Assistant even more accurate, input your marking criteria into your assessment description when creating your assessment. For example, you could include a sentence like: "This essay will be marked based on 3 marks for content, 3 marks for structure, and 4 marks for grammar." The Nurture Assistant will then automatically grade the student's work based on these criteria.
Troubleshooting
Error Message
If you receive an error message prompting you to 'retry' or 'cancel' during the feedback process, the first step is to check your internet connection.
Click 'retry' to reactivate the Nurture Assistant.
If the error persists, return to your Home Screen, then navigate back to the student submission and try again.
Additionally, please take a screenshot of the issue and send it to the Nurture team via our in-app support chat located in the bottom corner of your screen.
Populating Learning Outcomes, Grades, and Feedback
If the Nurture Assistant confirms the learning outcomes that the student needs feedback on, along with the marks awarded and a personal comment, but does not populate them in the designated fields, please enter this information manually. Doing so will prompt the assistant to complete the process accordingly.
