Manual Vitals let you record reference measurements (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate) taken with traditional instruments alongside your NxSCOPE recordings. This is essential for calibrating new devices and for keeping a complete medical record.
New devices show a yellow "Device Calibration Required" banner. To calibrate:
Take at least 3 recordings with your NxSCOPE on different animals or sessions.
Add manual vitals to each of those 3 recordings using the steps above.
The device calibrates automatically once 3 recordings have manual vitals attached.
Tip: For best calibration results, use reliable measurement methods (digital thermometer, traditional stethoscope) since these reference values train the device's algorithms. Once calibration is complete, the warning banner disappears and your device is ready for accurate autonomous measurements.

Step-by-Step Guide
Once your NxSCOPE is connected to the NXVET app, calibrate the device by taking three paired measurements (rectal + NxSCOPE temperatures) from your first patient. Enter these measurements by entering Manual Vitals.
1. Taking a calibration measurement
With the patient standing naturally, locate where the elbow meets the chest wall, then place your device firmly against the chest, one rib-space cranial to this point (over the 5th intercostal space). Ensure firm, steady pressure for optimal device performance and accurate measurements

2. Navigate to Your Device
Go to the Devices page and find your NxSCOPE device. If the device needs calibration, you'll see an orange banner at the top explaining the process.

3. Find the Recording
After taking a measurement with your NxSCOPE, in the NXVET app, tap Measurements,. Scroll down to the Latest Measurements section. Each recording shows a timestamp, patient info, and vital signs from the device.
4. Click "Manual Vitals"
Next to each recording, click the Manual Vitals button (heart icon). This opens the Add Manual Vitals form.

5. Fill In Patient Information
After clicking the Manual Vitals button, you should see the following:

At the top of the form, fill in the required fields:
Species — Select from the dropdown (Dog, Cat, Rabbit, Horse, etc.)
Breed — Type the animal's breed
Coat Type — Select from the dropdown (Short Hair, Long Hair, Curly, Double Coat, etc.)
Enter at least one of the following (all are optional individually, but you need at least one):
Temperature — Enter the value and toggle between Celsius and Fahrenheit. When you enter a temperature, you'll be asked how it was measured (Rectal, Ear, or Other). This is required.
Heart Rate — Enter in beats per minute (bpm). Must be a whole number.
Respiratory Rate — Enter in respirations per minute (rpm). Must be a whole number.
Now, add the patient's breed, vitals, and any additional information or notes you'd like to include. Once completed, tap Save Measurements to record your entry.
Use the Additional Information field for any extra context about the measurement.
Click Save Measurement. You'll see a success confirmation, and the measurement will be attached to that recording.
Repeat these steps for a total of three measurements. Once completed, your NxSCOPE is calibrated and ready for use.
Optional: Assign the recorded measurements to an existing patient profile, or tap Create New Patient to set up a new patient record.
