How to anonymize a contact ?

If a customer requests the deletion of their personal data (right to erasure - GDPR), you can anonymize their contact from the back office. Their personal data is permanently deleted, but their transaction history and loyalty data remain viewable under an anonymous address.

Anonymize a contact

  1. In the left menu, click Contacts

  2. Search for the relevant contact in the search bar

  3. Click on their email address to open their profile

  4. Click the Anonymize button

  5. Confirm the action

This action is irreversible. Once anonymized, the contact's first name, last name, email address and phone number are permanently deleted. It will no longer be possible to contact them or find them by their identity.

Finding an anonymized contact

Anonymized contacts do not disappear completely: they are moved to the Archived Contacts section.

  1. From Contacts, click Archived Contacts

  2. Anonymized contacts appear with an automatically generated address (e.g. anon-xxxx@obypay.com)

  3. Click on the contact to view their transaction history, points and loyalty data

Even when anonymized, the contact's history remains accessible for your reporting needs. Only personally identifying data is deleted.

Automatic anonymization (GDPR)

Obypay automatically applies GDPR regulations by anonymizing contacts who have been inactive for more than 3 years.

How it works :

  • Every customer action is tracked by establishment: orders, points earned, bankroll usage, email clicks, etc.

  • An automated nightly process identifies contacts with no activity for more than 3 years at a given establishment

  • These contacts are automatically anonymized and appear in Archived Contacts

Automatic anonymization is limited to the relevant establishment — a customer who is still active at another establishment in your brand is not affected.
