How to set up the Wheel of Fortune ?

The Wheel of Fortune is a gamification game integrated into Obypay that allows your restaurant to reward your customers through a random draw.

With each participation, the customer spins a wheel and wins (or doesn't) one of the rewards you have predefined: free product, discount, loyalty points, etc.

Concrete benefits for the restaurant :

  • Increase visit frequency : customers come back to try their luck.

  • Boost the average basket : rewards can be conditioned on a minimum purchase amount.

  • Enrich your CRM database : each participation = a customer identified in your Obypay database.

  • Animate key commercial moments (launch, anniversary, low activity periods, holidays).

Typical use cases :

  • "Welcome" Wheel for new customers who scan a QR code for the first time.

  • "Happy Hour" Wheel active only from 5 PM to 7 PM on weekdays.

  • "Valentine's Day" / "Halloween" / "Christmas" Wheel with themed rewards.

Step 1 — Access the Gamification module

In the left side menu, under the Loyalty section, click on Gamification.

You land on the GAMIFICATION page, which lists all your existing games (creation date, status, identifier).

Step 2 — Create a new game

Click the orange ADD button in the top right. A CREATE A NEW GAME window opens :

  • Name : give a clear and descriptive name (e.g. "Christmas Wheel 2026", "Welcome Wheel"). This name will remain visible to your teams internally.

  • Game type : select Wheel of Fortune from the dropdown menu.

Click CONFIRM.

Step 3 — Configure the general information

You are redirected to the game configuration page. Fill in the fields in the Information section :

Click SAVE at the bottom of the section.

Step 4 — Add the gifts to be won (5 maximum)

This is where you define what the customer can win. You can add up to 5 different rewards (the "slots" on the wheel).

Click ADD A GIFT on the right. An OFFER A REWARD modal opens.

4.1 — Choose the reward type

Reward type

When to use it

Discount

Fixed amount in € (e.g. €5 off)

Discount (%)

Percentage (e.g. 10% off)

Product

A specific menu item offered

Product category

Loyalty points

Favorite product

Favorite category

The most ordered category by this customer

CSM tip : "Favorite product" and "Favorite category" rewards have an excellent redemption rate because they are personalized. Combine them with a Replacement Category if needed (for customers who don't have a history yet).

4.2 — Define the reward conditions

  • Available categories : if you chose "Favorite category" or "Product category", check the eligible categories (Starters, Mains, Desserts, Drinks, etc.).

  • Minimum amount : minimum basket required to use the reward (e.g. €10 so that a free dessert is not used on its own).

  • Value in € (cents) : estimated value of the reward in cents (useful for financial reporting).

  • Usage limit : Online (click & collect / digital order) or On-site (in-restaurant only).

  • Expiry date : choose Fixed date (e.g. expires on 31/12/2026) or Number of days (e.g. valid for 7 days after winning).

  • Is recurring : check this if the gift can be won multiple times by the same customer.

  • Restaurants : select the eligible establishments (Select all or case by case).

4.3 — Time slots

Define when the reward can be used :

  • Day : Every day, or a specific day (Monday → Sunday).

  • Start time and end time.

You can add multiple slots via ADD (e.g. lunch service + dinner service).

4.4 — Define the winning probability

Once the gift is saved, you will find the list under List of gifts to be won (X / 5) with, for each gift, a % chance of winning field.

Golden rule : the sum of the % chance of each gift + "lost" must be consistent with the overall Winning percentage defined in step 3.

Example : Overall percentage = 80%, with 4 gifts at 20% each = 80% wins, 20% "Sorry, try again".

Click SAVE under the gift list.

4.5 — Rules

Before activating your wheel, you can write game rules directly in the dedicated field. This text editor field allows you to format the participation conditions (duration, terms, restrictions, legal notices, etc.). These rules are accessible to customers from their game interface.

Click SAVE once your rules are written.

Activate the Wheel (most important step !)

As long as the toggle at the top of the page is disabled (grey), your Wheel is in draft mode: no customer can play, even if you have configured everything.

To make it available, switch the "Game active, players can win rewards" toggle to ON.

From that moment :

  • Customers see the wheel in their Obypay digital journey (redirect link, payment page, CRM automations, etc.).

  • Each participation is recorded in the Participations tab (useful for reporting).

  • Your won gifts are automatically credited to the customer's pass.

Important : remember to check the Start date before activating. If the start date is in the future, the game will remain invisible until that date.

Step 5 — Make the Wheel visible to your customers

Activating the game from the Gamification page is not enough: you must also activate it at your point of sale level for it to appear in the customer journey.

Here's how :

  1. Go to the Order Back Office

  2. Go to Settings → Point of sale

  3. Click on your relevant point of sale

  4. Find the Loyalty Card tile

  5. Enable the Contest Games option

Without this step, the Wheel of Fortune will remain invisible to your customers, even if it is correctly configured and activated in the Gamification module.

Step 6 — Your game is ready and visible on your site

Congratulations, your Wheel of Fortune is now active and accessible to your customers !

To track its performance, go to Gamification, click on your game then on the Analytics tab : you will find the number of participants, rewards distributed and win rates.

Tip : remember to communicate about your Wheel via your email and SMS campaigns to maximize participation from launch !
