Octane AI's Klaviyo integration automatically pushes customers' quiz data into Klaviyo in a form that Klaviyo's features are fully ready to integrate.

This guide will teach you how to build a useful segment in Klaviyo that targets everyone who finished one of your quizzes.

๐Ÿ’ก What you'll learn

  • Verifying quiz data in Klaviyo (jump to section)

  • Building a segment with quiz data (jump to section)

  • Using custom properties in Klaviyo (jump to section)

๐Ÿ’ก Prerequisites

Any data you want to target in Klaviyo will need to be synced through an opt-in at least once before it will be selectable in Klaviyo.

Verifying quiz data in Klaviyo

With at least one test opt-in, you'll be able to view a sample profile in Klaviyo with quiz data with these steps.

  1. In Klaviyo, search for an email that was used with a quiz test opt-in.

  2. Open the customer profile.

  3. Scroll down until you see the Information section.

  4. A custom property that begins with "Octane: Quiz result" should be present.

The properties here represent the answers and results that the customer saw in a quiz.

If the properties aren't what you expected, try opening the quiz in the editor and going to:

Settings > Custom properties

Building a segment with quiz data

Custom properties have to show up at least once in Klaviyo in order to be targetable by Klaviyo features.

For now, we'll only be targeting the general Octane: Quiz result property.

To add a custom property to Klaviyo without having to submit test opt-ins, just edit a profile's properties and manually add it in.

Properties only need to be added once to become targetable, and this includes manually adding properties too.

To segment all customers that have finished your quiz:

  1. In Klaviyo, go to Audience > Lists & segments.

  2. Click Create List / Segment in the top right.

  3. Click 'Segment' when asked which one you'd like to create.

  4. Name the segment.

  5. Under Definition, select 'Properties about someone'.

  6. Set Dimension to the 'Octane: Quiz result" property you want to target.

  7. Change the condition to 'Is set'.

Once the segment is made, a constant list of customers who have finished this quiz will automatically populate. You can now:

  • Create a segment of any quiz answer or result.

  • Target the segment with a flow.

  • Track emails that took your quiz.

Using custom properties in Klaviyo

The steps for setting a segment definition with a custom property can also be done with flow filters.

This allows Octane and Octane Plus users to target and segment customers in Klaviyo flows using exact quiz answers and results.

Here's an example of a successful Klaviyo flow built with Octane quiz data.

Octane Plus users will also pass a timeline event into Klaviyo that contains advanced data which is required to create a flow that triggers every time on quiz completion.
