Understanding the Issue:

Bancontact imposes a limit of €1500 for mobile and QR code payments. This means that any payment attempt over this amount will automatically fail if made via mobile or QR. This limitation is imposed by Bancontact itself and is unrelated to our system, Mollie, or Stripe.

Solutions:

  1. Split the Payment:

    • If the total payment exceeds €1500, you can ask your client to split the transaction into smaller amounts, ensuring that each individual transaction is below the €1500 threshold.

  2. Encourage Card Payments:

    • For payments over €1500, we recommend using a Bancontact card instead of mobile or QR payments. Card payments do not have the same limitation as mobile transactions.

  3. Alternative Payment Methods:

    • Consider offering other payment options such as Credit Card or PayPal (available through both Mollie and Stripe) for larger transactions. Although these methods may be less common in certain regions, they provide a reliable alternative for high-value payments.

How to Adjust Your Payment Options:

If you find that many of your clients are encountering this issue, it may be helpful to review the payment options you provide:

  • Disable Bancontact for Large Payments: Configure your payment settings to disable Bancontact for transactions above €1500. This will prompt clients to use alternative methods like credit cards, bank transfers, or PayPal.

  • Clearly Communicate to Clients: Proactively inform your clients about Bancontact's payment limit and offer guidance on the best alternatives for transactions over €1500.

Common Questions:

Q: Why is my client’s payment failing when using Bancontact with Mollie or Stripe?

  • A: Payments above €1500 made through mobile or QR with Bancontact will fail due to Bancontact’s transaction limit. This restriction applies regardless of whether the payment is processed via Mollie or Stripe.

Q: Can I increase the Bancontact payment limit?

  • A: No, this limit is set by Bancontact and cannot be changed. We suggest encouraging your clients to use other payment methods or split the payments into smaller amounts.

Q: What if my client only wants to use Bancontact and doesn’t prefer alternative payment methods?

  • A: In this case, you can suggest splitting the payment into smaller amounts to keep each transaction below the €1500 limit. Alternatively, encourage them to use a Bancontact card instead of mobile or QR payments.
