The Alignment section on the detail pages of an objective and the key result has replaced Contributing items section.

The Alignment section gives you a perspective on where the OKR is located in the whole OKR structure. It consists of 5 elements (for an objective) or 3 elements (for a key result):

  • Sub-objectives (for objectives)

  • Key results (for objectives)

  • Dependencies

  • Contributions

  • Copies

You can see all of the aligned elements together inside the All tab.

Sub-objectives

In this tab, you can see all the sub-objectives aligned directly to the objective you’re viewing along with the basic data about their progress.

  • You can update the sub-objective’s status by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Update option

  • You can delete the sub-objective by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Delete option

  • You can change the sub-objective’s weight by clicking the pencil icon on the sub-objectives card

  • You can also add a new sub-objective by clicking on the “+ Add” menu at the top of the Alignment section and choosing “Sub-objective”. You’ll be redirected to the objective creation form.

Key results

In this tab, you can see all key results aligned directly to the objective you’re viewing along with the basic data about their progress.

  • You can update the key result's status by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Update option

  • You can delete the key result's by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Delete option

  • You can change the key result's weight by clicking the pencil icon on the key result’s card

  • You can also add a new key result's by clicking on the “+ Add” menu at the top of the Alignment section and choosing “Key result”. You’ll be redirected to the key result’s creation form.

Dependencies

In this tab, you can see all OKRs that are linked to the one you’re viewing via a dependency link along with the basic data about their progress.

Linking inside the OKR for Jira app works similarly to the Jira issue linking and is bi-directional.

In the case of dependency links, there are 2 links that can be created:

  • blocks

  • blocked by

Choosing any of them will create a link on both the OKR you’re adding the link to and the OKR that is linked, i.e. when adding a blocked by link from O-3 to O-4, it will also add a blocks link from O-4 to O-3.

  • You can update the OKR’s status by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Update option

  • You can unlink the OKR by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Unlink

  • You can link a new dependency by clicking on the “Link” menu at the top of the Alignment section and choosing the Dependency option. You will then see 2 dropdowns: the link type selector and the OKR selector. After choosing both, click the “Link” button. The OKRs are now linked.

Contributions

In this tab, you can see all OKRs that are linked to the one you’re viewing via a contribution link along with the basic data about their progress. Contribution links can show OKRs that are not in a direct hierarchy but do contribute to one another, i.e. OKRs from one team supporting an OKR from another team.

Linking inside the OKR for Jira app works similarly to the Jira issue linking and is bi-directional.

In the case of contribution links, there are 2 links that can be created:

  • supports

  • supported by

Choosing any of them will create a link on both the OKR you’re adding the link to and the OKR that is linked, i.e. when adding a supported by link from O-5 to O-6, it will also add a supports link from O-6 to O-5.

In the next iteration of this feature, we’ll add a possibility to contribute to the OKR’s progress and to add weight to the linked OKR in a similar manner that KRs contribute to an objective and have a weight assigned.

  • You can update the OKR’s status by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Update option

  • You can unlink the OKR by clicking on the 3-dots menu and choosing the Unlink

  • You can link a new contribution by clicking on the “Link” menu at the top of the Alignment section and choosing the Contribution option. You will then see 2 dropdowns: the link type selector and the OKR selector. After choosing both, click the “Link” button. The OKRs are now linked.

Copies

In this tab, you can an OKR from which the one you’re viewing was copied (if it was copied from another OKR) or all OKRs that are a copy of the OKR that you’re viewing (if there were any copies made). These links are created automatically after a copy is created.
