What is a specialist consultation?
A specialist consultation is a full-length video appointment with a certified doctor in a specific medical field. This format is ideal for in-depth medical questions, treatment planning, or a second opinion. Specialists include psychiatrists, dermatologists, neurologists, pediatricians, rheumatologists, ENT doctors, oncologists, surgeons, and more.
When is a specialist consultation the right choice?
Book a specialist consultation if you:
Need care in a specific area (e.g., psychiatry, dermatology, neurology)
Have a complex issue that requires detailed evaluation
Need a second opinion
Have been referred by a general practitioner
Want to discuss a diagnosis or long-term condition
If your request is simpler (cold, headache, UTI, allergy), consider an Express Consultation with a general practitioner.
How much does a specialist consultation cost?
The price of a specialist consultation is set individually by each doctor. You can see the exact fee in the doctor’s profile before booking.
The fee shown includes the full cost of the online consultation. There are no additional or hidden charges.
How long does a specialist consultation last?
The duration of a specialist consultation depends on the doctor. Typical sessions range from 20 to 60 minutes.
Some doctors offer shorter consultations (15–30 minutes), while others provide longer appointments (45–60 minutes), depending on their specialty and consultation style.
You can find the exact duration listed in the doctor’s profile before booking.

Can I book a consultation for my child or another person?
Yes, you can book a consultation for your child or someone you legally represent. Just mention this in the comments when making the booking.
Be sure to include the document details of the person receiving the service — this is required if the doctor decides to issue a prescription, referral, or medical certificate after the consultation.

What to expect during the consultation
During a specialist consultation on Oladoctor, you’ll speak with a certified doctor via secure video connection in your browser. The session typically lasts between 15 to 60 minutes — the exact duration depends on the doctor you’ve chosen.
Here’s what to expect during the consultation:
The doctor will review the reason for your visit, based on what you shared during booking.
You may be asked additional questions to clarify your symptoms, medical history, or ongoing treatments.
The doctor will provide medical advice, explain their assessment, and offer personalized recommendations or a treatment plan.
If appropriate, the doctor may issue medical documents — such as a prescription, referral for tests, or a medical certificate — based on your condition and local healthcare regulations.
You can also ask questions, request clarification, or discuss next steps during the consultation. The goal is to help you feel informed and supported.
What happens after the consultation
If the doctor issues any documents after your consultation, they will be sent to you in two ways:
By email — shortly after the appointment ends.
In your Oladoctor account — log in and go to:
My Account → My Orders → Select the consultation → Click Download
Depending on the case, you may receive:
Medical notes or recommendations with details from the consultation.
A prescription, if the doctor deems it appropriate and local regulations allow for it.
A referral for lab tests, imaging (e.g., ultrasound, MRI), or a visit to another specialist.
A medical certificate, if this is part of the service and justified by your case.
All documents are prepared by the doctor at their discretion and according to the clinical situation. If no documents are needed, the consultation still provides valuable medical insight and direction.
What to do if the doctor didn’t join the consultation
If your doctor didn’t join the consultation at the scheduled time, follow these steps:
1. Check your time zone
First, make sure the time zone in your Oladoctor account is correct. The consultation time is displayed based on this time zone.
For example, if your profile is set to UTC but you’re actually in Europe/Madrid, the consultation might not have started yet in your local time.
👉 See this guide: How to check and change your time zone in Oladoctor
2. Verify the consultation time
Go to My Account → My Orders, select the relevant consultation, and confirm the scheduled time. Make sure you’re joining exactly at the time shown, according to your selected time zone.
3. Wait 5–10 minutes
Sometimes doctors join a few minutes late. Stay on the call for at least 10 minutes after the scheduled time.
4. Contact support
If the doctor still hasn’t joined after 10 minutes, reach out to support and describe the situation. We’ll check the status and help you with a solution — whether it’s a refund, rescheduling, or a new consultation.
