📌 Please note: this is a workaround method since there is currently no direct multi-language functionality available in Onepage.

To set up a bilingual website, you will need to manually create a version of your site in the second language.

Here's a short instruction to create a multilingual website:

Step 1: Duplicate your existing page

Open your project, and click on the setting button, which is located near your page.

Step 2: Type in the page title and slug

You will need to create a new title for the translated page. For example, "Seite 1", if you are translating into German.

As for the slug, you can either let the system suggest one, based on the page title, or use your own. This could be a simple /de slug, or an addition to an already existing slug, f.e. /contact-de

Step 3: Translate the duplicated page

Almost all texts can be translated, by simply selecting them and changing the text.

You may need to open the settings pop-up for some elements, such as buttons, items, toggle lists, forms, quizzes etc.

Step 4: Link the original and translated pages

After you finish the translation, make sure to link the two pages.

You would need to set up a language switcher in both pages and paste the URL of the translated page in each of them.

For example, you have 2 pages:

  1. yourpage.com/en

  2. yourpage.com/de

Here is how you would do the linking:

Although there is no direct multi-language functionality, you can create a language switcher using the "Menu" element in headers, the "Items" element in Footer and the "Button" element, as an alternative to footer.

There is a variety of design options for these solutions, and we would like to present some of them in the following chapter.

Common language switcher designs

In all below cases, we recommend using our section templates and adding the wished elements.

📌 Please note: you can click on the examples to load a higher resolution image.

1. Header switcher

You can either use icons, text, or both.

You can use either the "Menu" or "Button" elements.

2. Footer switcher

📌 Please note: the footer structure can be different in the mobile view. You can manually optimise the section if needed. More information in this article.

This can be f.e. a centred switcher:

Or a switcher in the page corner:

3. Mega menu switcher

⚠️ Important: this option is not available in the free plan.

For a more complex design, you can use our mega menu function.
