Actions in Coach help you stay accountable between meetings and manage tasks day-to-day.
There are two types:
Relationship actions: these are tied to a coaching relationship
Personal actions: these are are standalone tasks not connected to any relationship - think of these as your own personal task management.
Relationship actions
Relationship actions are created within a coaching relationship; either during a meeting, or from the relationship's Actions tab. They're shared between the manager and their report.
Every action has:
A task description
A due date
An assignee (manager or report)
A status (To do, Done, Overdue)
Action statuses
Action statuses
To do: the default status for all new actions.
Done: marked complete before the deadline.
Overdue: the due date has passed without completion.
Done (late): Once completed late, it shows as done (late).
Not done: mark an overdue action as Not done to remove it from the active list without deleting it. Useful for actions that are no longer relevant.
Who can edit relationship actions
🔐 Only the action creator and/or the relationship creator (usually the manager) can edit an action's name, description, assignee, and due date. Anyone can mark an action as done.
Actions carry forward automatically
Any action not marked as done will carry forward to the next meeting automatically, ensuring nothing gets lost between 1:1s.
For detail on exactly which actions appear in a meeting, see ➡️ Preparing and running a Meeting.
Personal Actions
Personal Actions are standalone tasks you create for yourself, independent of any coaching relationship. Think of them as your own to-do list within Coach; useful for tracking commitments and tasks that don't belong to a specific 1:1.
Key things to know:
Personal Actions are owned by and assigned to the person who creates them
They are only editable by their creator
They're visible to anyone who can already see your relationship actions (e.g., your manager)
Creating a personal action
Select Coach in the main navigation, then select Actions.
In the Relationship column, select Personal from the dropdown.
Fill in the task description, due date, and any other details.
Select Save.
The all-actions page
Select Coach > Actions to open the all-actions page. This brings together actions from every coaching relationship you have access to, alongside your personal actions, all in one view.
From here you can:
Filter by status (defaults to To do and Overdue) and by assignee (defaults to you, with an All option)
See which relationship each action belongs to, or whether it's a personal action
Create new actions, either for a specific relationship or as a personal action
Mark actions complete without opening a meeting
💡 The all-actions page shows your full history. Individual relationship tabs show only recent activity by default.
Tips
Use personal actions for tasks with no natural home: things like "review training materials" or "follow up with candidate" that aren't tied to a specific 1:1.
Your manager can see your personal actions if they have access to your relationship actions: bear this in mind when creating them.
The Dashboard actions widget also surfaces your Personal Actions alongside relationship actions, so you don't need to navigate to Coach to stay on top of them.
