We know how crucial it is to provide your new starters with everything they need to succeed. Hiring and onboarding can be costly and time consuming, therefore getting it wrong can have a huge negative impact on the business.

Across our client base we regularly see 'Learning and Development Managers' getting great value from our platform. Literally all of the OneUp features lend themselves really well to nurturing a new starter and setting them off on a path towards success!

The New Cohort

First things first, once you have added your new starters to OneUp it's a good idea to create a new team for them so you have them grouped together. Teams on OneUp become super useful in many other areas of the platform such as setting targets, creating incentives and reporting on performance (all of which you're likely to want to do).

Education and guidance using Targets & the Dashboard

The target dials on the OneUp Dashboard are designed to be a super simple, visual representation of where the individual is performing against what's expected of them. We use the red, amber, green (RAG) system to make it easy to see how they're doing and this visibility is crucial to an individual who needs the guidance of targets to keep them on track during their first few months.

Targets are a fantastic way to educate your new starters on what it takes to achieve their desired outcomes. Setting up the targets in a really granular 'stepping stone' format will slowly teach them just how much activity is needed at each stage of their pipeline in order to make a placement or bring revenue into the business. By implementing this structured process, the path towards revenue becomes more manageable, they can celebrate smaller successes along the way, and they learn how to manage their pipeline independently.

With these target dials sitting at the top of the users' Dashboard, they are fully equipped to understand their performance and own their results! To reap the benefits of these simple but effective dials, make sure you've set targets for your new starters in the Targets page on OneUp.

Pro Tips:

  1. Save time by using the blue 'select' button to bulk set targets for all individuals at once in the new team you've created.

  2. Use the date range at the bottom of the target creation window to set specific start and end dates to coincide with their ramp period. This means the target will automatically end in line with their probation completion and will allow you to come in and set up their new, fully ramped targets.

Stay on track of performance using the Matrix

As a team leader or L&D manager, you will want to keep a close eye on how your newbies are doing. Creating a quick report inside the Matrix will give you super easy, 'finger on the pulse' statistics, that you can check as frequently as your heart desires.

Use that handy team you created earlier to filter down the users and include only your new starters in the report. Next, begin to add in the key metrics you will be using to monitor their performance - you can even see their performance towards target!

Save this report by clicking the floppy disk icon in the top right, and then bookmark the page so you can load it swiftly every time you need to check in on how they're all doing.

Make the process enjoyable using Gamification & OneUp TV

Starting a new job can be tough, so your new starters will massively benefit from anything that can up their daily motivation levels. Equally, creating an environment in which they actually enjoy 'the daily grind', will greatly increase the chances of them pulling through the tough times and sticking around.

'Rookie Leagues' are something we see run regularly, and with great success. These involve creating a OneUp league for your new starters, in which you add all of the key metrics that you want them to be focussing on in their first few weeks. Adding points values for each metric, along with a little incentive prize, will foster just enough healthy competition to keep them focussed, enjoying their job, and adding more activity than they would otherwise.

These Leagues can be tracked on the individuals' Dashboards, but it's also great fun to put them up on the screens in the office to motivate everyone that extra bit more. Another great thing to add to your OneUp TV is PDFs that include advice and reminders on business processes e.g. "Always remember to connect with your candidates on Linkedin" or maybe "Don't forget to book in your follow up calls". With these rotating round on the screen all day, these tips not only help them succeed, but they do so in a way which follows the ideal internal processes - win, win!
