Geofencing ensures that drivers complete deliveries and clock in for shifts from the correct location. When enabled, Onfleet verifies a driver's GPS location against a defined geofence zone your organization sets before allowing task completion or on-duty status changes.
Geofencing protects proof-of-delivery, prevents false completions, and ensures shift accuracy.
Geofencing covers two driver actions:
Task Completion – Verifies driver location at the delivery address when tapping "Complete"
Going On Duty – Verifies driver location near their hub when clocking in
Each can be configured independently.
Setup & Configuration
Account administrators can enable the driver geofencing under the organization's settings.
To enable driver geofencing:
Select "Settings" on the bottom left-hand corner of the dashboard, then select "Driver App"
Under the "Driver App" section, scroll to "Geofence"
For each mode (Task Completion and/or On-Duty), choose:
Off – Geofencing disabled
Warn – Driver is warned but can proceed
Block – Driver cannot proceed until in zone
Then set the radius for your geofence (distance in meters from the location):
Task Completion: 100–1000m (default: 200m / ~656 ft)
On-Duty: 100–2000m (default: 500m / ~1640 ft)
Select "Save" to save the settings.
Note: Geofencing is configured at the organization level only; team-level settings are not yet available.
How Drivers Will Experience It
For the geofencing to work as expected, a minimum app version is required. For Android the app version must be 2.6.5 or newer and for iOS: 1.46 or newer
Task Completion
When a driver taps "Complete" on a dropoff:
If in zone: Completes normally ✓
If outside zone (Warn mode): A warning appears; driver can dismiss and proceed
If outside zone (Block mode): Completion is blocked with a message showing the required distance
Going On Duty
When a driver clocks in:
If at hub: Goes on duty normally ✓
If away from hub (Warn mode): A warning appears; driver can dismiss and go on duty
If away from hub (Block mode): Driver cannot go on duty until closer to the hub
What Gets Logged
All geofence warnings and blocks are recorded in Task History and visible to:
Drivers – In the mobile app task detail
Dispatchers/Admins – In the dashboard (viewable in task history)
This audit trail helps you track compliance and investigate disputes.
Location & Accuracy
How Onfleet determines location:
Online: Live GPS from the driver's phone
Offline: Last known location (up to 30 seconds old)
Low GPS accuracy: Block mode is skipped automatically to prevent false blocks; events are logged separately
Note: Location mocking will be detected and surfaced as an error.
