Overview
We totally understand that sometimes customers need to switch up their shipping method—whether it's changing from Local Pickup to Shipping or upgrading from Standard Ground to FedEx Express Air.
Right now, Shopify does not allow changes to the shipping method on an existing subscription, so even if you update the price, the original shipping method will still apply to all future renewals.
This means customers must cancel and repurchase with the correct shipping method.
How to Fix It
The best way to update the shipping method is for the customer to cancel their current subscription and start a new one with the correct shipping option.
Steps to Fix:
Cancel the current subscription
Customers can cancel their subscription through their account on your store.
Merchants can also cancel it from the Ongoing app admin panel.
Have the customer place a new subscription order
Direct them to reorder their subscription, selecting the correct shipping method at checkout.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
The new subscription will use the updated shipping method for all future renewals.
Adjusting the price on an existing subscription won't override the original shipping method.
If a customer needs to switch between different shipping options (e.g., from standard ground to expedited air), they’ll need to create a new subscription.
Will updating the price change the shipping method for a subscription? Currently, not at this time with Shopify. Changing the price of the delivery (although possible) does not change the actual shipping method, it only changes the price you want to charge them for shipping.
