In this article, you will learn how to create quantity discounts using subscription plans with the Ongoing app.

Let's begin.

Let's say I want to sell a bag of coffee for $10.

But if the customer buys 2 bags, they get 5% off.

And if the customer buys 4 bags, they get 10% off.

Here's how we would set this up.

First, make sure you have a product on Shopify.

Step 1: Create your 1st subscription group with a new plan

  • From Ongoing, click on Subscription Groups, and click Create Group.

  • I'll name my group 4 Bags Monthly Save 10% so I know what plan it has inside

  • Next, click Create Plan. I'll name my plan 4 Bags Monthly Save 10%. This is what the customer will see on the product page.

  • I'll set it up the plan with delivery every 1 month and billing every 1 month.

  • Click Enable Discounts, and do a SET PRICE discount. You'll need to calculate the discount you are giving to reward the customer for buying 4 quantity. For example my bag of coffee normally costs $10 each, but if they buy 4 I want to give them 10% off, so my set price I enter will be $36.

  • Save your Plan

  • Connect the product you want to have this plan, and click Save group.

Step 2: Create a 2nd subscription group with a separate plan

  • From Ongoing, click on Subscription Groups, and click Create group.

  • I'll name my group 2 Bags Monthly Save 5% so I know what plan it has inside

  • Next, click Create Plan. I'll name my plan 2 Bags Monthly Save 5%. This is what the customer will see on the product page.

  • I'll set it up the plan with delivery every 1 month and billing every 1 month.

  • Click Enable Discounts, and do a SET PRICE discount. You'll need to calculate the discount you are giving to reward the customer for buying 2 quantity. For example my bag of coffee normally costs $10 each, but if they buy 2 I want to give them 5% off, so my set price I enter will be $19

  • Save your Plan

  • Connect the same product, and click Save group.

NOTE: The last subscription plan to be created is the one that will display on top.

Now you should have two separate subscription groups, containing two different subscription plans, but both connected to the same product.

Step 3: View subscription plans on your product page

Now it's time to look at your product, & make sure the subscription plans look correct!

Within Ongoing, you can click on the Products tab inside your subscription group, and click View on My store.

And you're all done!

Now you have a subscription product that has subscription plans with quantity discounts baked into them!

Not seeing subscription plans appear?

You'll need to publish the subscription widget to your theme.

From the Ongoing app, go to the Getting Started section & refer to Step 3 for instructions on how to insert the subscription widget into your specific theme.
