All work that is submitted needs to be accurately referenced, this is to ensure that it passes the plagiarism checks.

You are free to quote and cite throughout your work, but we would highly recommend that you also clearly show that you have digested the information, researched it, and interpreted it in your own words to show your understanding.

We cannot pass work that has been plagiarised unless it is fully referenced.

When quoting, then, ensure you give the name of the author and the date of the publication, and then ensure that all of the other details, such as the website, textbook, magazine, etc, are accurately referenced in your bibliography at the end of your work.

You can use any referencing style such as Oxford, Harvard or any other style that you may be familiar with, as long as all of the accurate information is included.

A useful website to use to assist you with citing, quoting and referencing correctly is

Word also has it's own reference creator which will be a great help, if you are using Word to complete your assignments.

You can take advantage of this by:

  • Go to 'References' tab at the top of the screen

  • Select 'Style' and choose a citation style

  • Select 'Insert citation'

  • Choose 'Add new source'

  • Fill out all of the information about your source
