Set up jmc Teacher preferences

Every teacher can edit their settings to make jmc Teacher flexible and customizable for them.

jmc offers teachers the convenience of tailoring the appearance and functionality of certain features in jmc Teacher to suit their needs. With the ability to adjust settings like assignment sorting and calculation rounding, you can personalize jmc Teacher to function exactly the way you want it to. By setting preferences that match your preferred view, you can enhance your productivity and make the most of this excellent tool!

Log in to jmc Teacher and head to File > Preferences to explore and set options for jmc Teacher.

Step One: Select the grading term from the "Current Term" drop-down list to access schedules, grade books and attendance for the specified term.

Step Two: Select the appropriate preferences from the "Sort assignments by" and "Show" drop-down lists to organize the layout of the Assignment Scores page.

  • Sort assignments by date: display assignments in order by the due date

  • Sort by category: group assignments by category name

  • Show All Students: displays all students in the grade book view

  • Show One Student: select individual students from a drop-down list to display students one at a time in the grade book view

Step Three: Select a color from the color picker next to each predefined grade book code (for example, "X" for "Exempt" or "HI" for "Handed In) to customize the score alert displayed on the Assignment Scores page.

Step Four: Select a color from the "Low Assignment Score" color picker and select the low score percentage threshold from the "%" drop-down list to customize a low score alert displayed on the Assignment Scores page.

A few helpful tips:

  • Want to be warned that you accidentally gave a student a score that was above the highest possible score for an assignment? Place a checkmark in the "Warn if score greater than max score" checkbox!

  • Place a checkmark in the "Show Assignment Summary" checkbox to display class averages for selected assignments on the Assignment Scores page.

  • Place a checkmark in the "Use Old Assignment Scores Style" checkbox to revert to an older version of the Assignment Scores page.

Step Five: Select the appropriate preferences from the "Sort assessments by" and "Results Display" drop-down lists to customize your view of the Competency-Based Gradebook.

  • Sort Assessments by Date: view formative assessments from newest to oldest or oldest to newest

  • Sort Assessments by Name: display formative assessments in alphabetic/numeric order

  • Result Display Value & Color: display the numeric value of a formative assessment results within the color box on the "Score Formative Assessments" page

  • Result Display Name & Color: display the name of the proficiency within the color box on the "Score Formative Assessments" page

  • Result Display Color Only: display only the color within the color box on the "Score Formative Assessments" page

Step Six: Place a checkmark in the appropriate checkbox(es) to utilize the listed calculation or display option from the "General" box.

  • Round percentages to determine grades: rounding rules will be applied to the percentages of a student's grade within your class

  • Always use letter grades to calculate course grades: jmc will ignore the percentages when determining the overall course grade and instead will use the letter grade values from jmc Office

  • Include exams in course menus: add semester exam options in categories and assignments for each course section

  • Show student photos: display student photos beside student names on the "Seating Charts" and "Enter Attendance" pages

  • Allow multiple dates per term in assessments sets: allow the teacher to enter more than one set of assessments per term

  • Show submitted attendance status: display feedback on the "Enter Attendance" page if you have previously submitted attendance for a course section

Step Seven: Enter an email signature to be used when sending an email from the Teacher Message Center in the "Email Signature" box.

A few helpful tips

  • Add some pizzazz to your email signature! Use the formatting options to change the font, make text bold, italic, or underlined, enter a hyperlink, and much more!

  • Copy and paste your school's logo into your email signature to really make it stand out!

  • If you don't want to include your email signature, remove the checkmark from the "Include Signature" checkbox.

Step Eight: Click the "Save" button to save your email signature.

Helpful Tip: Need to change your password? Click the "Edit" link at the bottom of the page and enter a new password. Click the "Save" link to enable the new password you entered.
