When the jmc scheduler does not work for your situation, there are a number of other tools at your disposal to create student schedules by hand. From adding courses to an individual student, to copying a complete schedule from one student to another student, jmc has you covered.

Three of the most popular methods to hand schedule courses for a student include:

  • Adding all courses for an individual student at one time

  • Adding individual courses one at a time to a student's schedule

  • Copying a complete schedule from one student onto another student

Adding all courses for an individual student at one time
For a quick, point and click method to add registered courses to one student at a time, use the Add Courses page. Simply click on course names from a list to add them to a student's schedule. Head to Schedules > Student > Add Courses to start adding courses to an individual student.

Step One: Enter a student's name or ID in the "Find" field to select the student to register.

Step Two: Click a course name from the "Available Courses" box to add the course to the "Current Courses" list for the student.

Fun Fact: Available courses are set by grade level on the Schedule > Course > Courses to Add page to filter the list to a smaller number of courses to scroll through when selecting.

Helpful Tip: Click a course name in the "Current Courses" box to move it back to the "Available Courses" box, removing it from the student's schedule.

Step Three: Click the "Save" button to update your changes or click the "Revert" button to clear any changes made to the student's schedule.

Adding individual courses one at a time to a student's schedule

To place students into class sections with help identifying which courses fit with one another, head to Schedule > Student > Edit Schedules. The Add Courses option there will quickly assist you in building a full schedule for a student in a few clicks.

Step One: Enter a student's name or ID in the "Find" field to select the student to register.

Helpful Tip: Select a term from the "Display Term" drop-down list to filter which courses are currently viewable on the page.

Step Two: Click the "Add Courses" button to view the available courses that would fit into the student's current schedule.

Step Three: Click the "Select" link from the add courses pop-up to add the course to the student's schedule and click "OK" to confirm or "Close" to disregard the change.

Step Four: Select a different class section from the "Section" drop-down list if you want to move the student into a different class section.

Step Five (optional): Select a locking choice from the "Lock" drop-down list to make sure the student stays in this particular section of the class if you plan on using the jmc scheduler to balance class sizes.

Step Six: Click the "Save" button to save changes you've made to the student's schedule while on this page.

Step Seven: Click the "Print" button to print the selected student's schedule.

Step Eight (optional): Place a checkmark in the checkbox to the right of the course name and click the "Delete Course(s)" button to remove a course from the student's schedule.

Helpful Tip: Need to delete multiple courses? Place a checkmark in the checkboxes of multiple courses on the student's schedule to select the courses to be deleted or place a checkmark in the checkbox to the right of the "Course" label to select all courses.

Fun Fact: If a red circle appears next to a course name, the student has taken that course in a previous term. Click the circle to see when the student previously enrolled in the selected course.

Copying a complete schedule from one student onto another student

Sometimes you can identify a student who should have the same schedule as an already scheduled student. In that case you can easily copy the pre-built schedule from one student to another student, saving you the time of hand entering each course into the schedule. Head to Schedule > Student > Edit Schedules to see how!

Step One: Enter a student's name or ID in the "Find" field to select the student needing a schedule.

Step Two: Click the "Copy Schedule From Another Student" quick link to select a student with an existing schedule.

Step Three: Click the "OK" button in the notification box stating "This student's schedule will be copied from another student" to confirm you want to update the current student with another student's schedule.

Step Four: Select the other student whose schedule you'd like to copy to the current student by entering their name or ID in the "Find" drop-down list.

Step Five: Click the "OK" button to copy the other student's schedule or click the "Close" button to return to the original student's schedule without copying.
