jmc accommodates situations where a student prefers to use a first, last or full name that is different from the name that appears on their birth certificate with the "Sensitive" tab on the View Student Data page. Simply enter a student's preferred name for display on all jmc portals on the main section of the View Student Data page and include a student's legal name on the "Sensitive" tab for official records and state reporting.

To add a legal name to a student's record, head to the View Student Data page in jmc Office.

Step One: Select the student to be edited by entering the name of the student in the "Find" field.

Step Two: Enter the student’s preferred last name, first name, middle name, suffix and/or gender in the appropriate fields to display on all jmc portals and reports.

Step Three: Click the "Save" button to update the preferred name for the selected student.

Step Four: Click the "Sensitive" tab to access fields associated with a student's legal identity.

Step Five: Enter a student's legal last name, first name, middle name, suffix (if applicable) and birth sex (if applicable) in the appropriate fields to define a student's legal identity in jmc.

Fun Fact: If the fields on the "Sensitive" tab are left blank, the information on the main section of the View Student Data page is used as a student's legal identity.

Helpful Tip: Include both the first and last name on the "Sensitive" tab to use the student's legal name instead of the name on the main section of the View Student Data page for state reporting purposes.

Step Six: Click the "Save" button to update the legal identity for the selected student.
