The "Entry" tab on the View Student Data page in jmc Office is designed to help Iowa schools document important data for students who are migrant, immigrant, experiencing homelessness, or English learners. This information is key for accurate state reporting and helps schools receive the funding and support needed for relevant programs.

To get started, log in to jmc Office, go to the View Student Data page, and click the "Entry" tab.

Language Information

Students whose primary or native language is not English may be eligible for English Learner (EL) services. These programs often require a home language survey and accurate reporting. The following fields help schools collect and manage this data:

  • Birthplace: the city and/or state the student is born (for internal reference)

  • Birth Country: the country in which the student was born used for reporting the home language survey

  • Last School Attended: the last school attended by a migrant or immigrant student for internal reference and internal reporting purposes

  • Home Language Survey Date: the date the parent/guardian completed the survey—required for all new Iowa enrollees

Migrant and Immigrant Enrollment Information

Students who qualify as migrant or immigrant may be eligible for state or federal funding through programs like the Migratory Education Program (MEP). The "Entry" tab on the View Student Data page collects important information related to these statuses, which is shared with the state to help schools receive the funding and support needed for eligible students.

  • Entry Date into District: the date the student first moved into the school district

  • Entry Date into School: the date the student first enrolled in the current school

  • First Enrollment Date in US school: the date an immigrant or English Learner (EL) student first enrolled in any U.S. school, used to determine immigrant status

  • Migrant: a drop-down list used to indicate whether the student participates in a federally funded migrant program such as the Migratory Education Program

  • Migrant Date: the most recent date the student migrated into the district

  • Duration: the length of time the student has been in the district, calculated from the "Migrant Date"

  • Immigrant: a checkbox indicating whether the student meets the state-defined criteria for immigrant status

  • Immigrant Date: the date the student first entered the school as an immigrant

  • Immigrant From: the country the student immigrated from

Homeless Student Information

Schools that serve students experiencing homelessness may qualify for state or federal funding to provide additional support. The "Entry" tab on the View Student Data page in jmc helps schools document and report this information accurately for state reporting purposes.

  • Initial Homeless Type: identifies the student’s primary nighttime residence at the time they became homeless, if they experienced homelessness during the school year

  • Unaccompanied Homeless Youth: indicates that the student meets the state’s definition of an unaccompanied homeless youth

  • Through McKinney-Vento Subgrant: shows whether the student received direct or indirect services funded by a McKinney-Vento subgrant at any point during the school year
