Tired of managing stacks of paper forms during registration? jmc Office has you covered! With custom fields, you can create digital questions to gather important information—like permission to post student photos on social media or administer pain relievers. Custom fields help eliminate paper forms, reduce the chance of lost or incomplete data, and make it easy to collect accurate, essential information.

In jmc Office, head to File > Define Custom Fields to get started!

Step One (optional): Click the "Import" button to import custom field questions from the previous year.

Helpful Tip: This is a huge time saver if you’ve already created questions in a prior year—they’ll be automatically copied into the current year!

Step Two: Click the "+ Add Custom Field" button to add a new question for families to answer during registration.

Step Three: Place a checkmark in the "Current Year" checkbox to include this question in this year's online registration process.

Helpful Tip: Simply remove the checkmark from the "Current Year" checkbox to keep the question saved in your list but exclude it from this year’s registration.

Step Four: Enter your question in the “Name” field to define the information you want to collect during the registration process.

Step Five: Enter details in the “Additional Information” field to guide families as they answer the custom field question.

Step Six: Select a format from the "Data Type" drop-down list to specify the type of response families can submit:

  • Text: an open-ended response (limited to a specified character count)

  • Numeric: a response using only numbers

  • Date: a date-formatted response

  • Yes/No: a yes-or-no answer, with the option to trigger a follow-up question if “No” is selected

Step Seven: Select the appropriate radio button to define the “Permanence” of the custom field:

  • Year-Specific: clears the field at the end of each school year, requiring families to re-enter a response during online registration annually.

  • Year-Independent: carries the response over from year to year, allowing families to update the information as needed or keep their previous answer.

Step Eight: Click the "Update" button to add your custom field question to the list or click the "Cancel" button to discard your entry.

Helpful Tip: Use the pencil icon to edit an existing question or the trash can icon to delete one.
