Supported cards, how Stripe tokenizes your details, how venue-set holds work, and the fact that OpenTab doesn’t impose spending limits.

OpenTab works with most major debit and credit cards. Just add your card once and use it across all participating restaurants. Apple Pay and Google Pay aren’t supported yet, but we’ll share updates in the app as we expand options.

Your card details are secured using Stripe, which vaults and tokenizes your information so the restaurant never needs to handle your raw card number. Some venues place a pre-authorization when you open a tab; the amount varies by restaurant, and the hold drops per your bank’s normal timelines once the final charge settles. OpenTab doesn’t impose daily or per-transaction limits of its own.

Payment methods

  • Most debit and credit cards are accepted.

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay are not supported yet.

Security

  • We use Stripe to vault and tokenize your card information.

Holds (preauths)

  • Configured by each restaurant (amounts can vary).

  • Holds typically drop according to your bank’s policies after the final charge settles.

Limits

  • No daily or per-transaction limits from OpenTab.
