In this article you will learn about the different question types. It is important to know about each one before creating your checklist so that you will know what kind of questions you want and in what situations when building it.

Question Type

Explanation

True False

  • Your standard true/false question.

  • The True and False button labels will default as True and False, however you can change them to Yes/No, Complete/Not Complete, etc

  • There is also the “Allow Null” button if a specific question is not applicable to everyone and you want to give them that option.

  • You use the N/A option when you are requiring the question to be answered but it doesn't pertain to everyone.

  • The True False question type is the only question type that has an N/A button.

Number (Enter Number)

  • Anything you want them to manually enter a number for, ie, weight or temperature.

  • This is the question type you would use if you wanted the end user to use a BlueTooth Thermometer.

  • To learn more about the BlueTooth Thermometers that we support, click here.

  • Precision is how many decimal points you would like to show. If it is left blank then it will automatically be 0

  • You can add before (ie $) or after ( ie °, oz, ppm) labels depending on what the question is asking

  • This field cannot except any text only numbers.

Number (Multiple Choice)

  • This can store number values, but also allows you to add buttons with labels that associate with certain values

    • Lablel: 4 - Great

    • Value: 4

  • The label is what you want the choice to be seen on the checklist as, and the value is what will be stored in the database.

  • You can change how you want the options to be presented by selecting from the dropdown menu to the right of “Display as”

  • Select + Add Choice for every choice you want to have

  • Input the Label and Value for each choice. You can delete choices, but labels and point values are required for each choice.

  • Choose from the Display As drop-down to display the options how you would like.

    1. Buttons - shows them all as buttons, best for a few choices

    2. Drop Down List - shows them in a drop-down menu, better for 5-10 choices

    3. Radio Buttons: look good but have small buttons.

Text (Enter Text)

  • Allows them to type in an answer, this is good if they need to fill out their name or answer a question.

  • Check the Multi-Line box if you would like the question to have more than one line - The default is 1 line.

  • You are allowed a max of 500 characters, if you go over that count it will truncate your response.

Text (Multiple Choice)

  • This can store text values, but also allows you to add buttons with labels that associate with certain values

    • Label: 4 - Great

    • Value: Great

  • Select +Add Choice to input possible answers for the question

  • Add different Labels and Values that correspond to the question. Usually, you would make the label and the value the same

Duration

  • Allows Users to enter an amount of time that has passed.

  • The UX control has a stop watch that allows people to start and stop to collect the duration or they can just enter a duration into the box.

  • The stopwatch is better.

Attachment (Picture)

  • Allows you to make the end user take a photo to answer the question.

  • The Label is for the button that shows up on the question. Picture questions have a photo button that looks like a camera and this label is what is printed on that button.

Attachment (File)

  • Allows you to make the end user upload a file to answer the question.

  • The Label is for the button that shows up on the question. Picture questions have a photo button that looks like a camera and this label is what is printed on that button.

No Response

  • A No Response question is just a text box that you can place in your checklist to provide more information.

  • No Response questions are great for attaching job aids or providing detailed instructions to end users.

  • We use No Response questions a lot at the bottom of Sections to instruct End Users to open the Navigation bar and to select the next Section.

Choose Asset

  • This question will only be visible if you have the Assets Module.

  • It provides an Asset Picker that you can use to associate an Asset to a checklist.

Some additional things to be aware of:

  • You can mix and match questions in a checklist.

  • Each Question Type has it's own rules based on the data that is being stored in the database.

    • A True False Question will have different rules to choose from than a text question.

    • The Number Rules, especially around temperatures are complete rules with tagging and required comments in them.
