Through Medicare, the Better Access initiative provides better access to mental health practitioners. Its purpose is to improve the management and treatment of mental illness within the community. The Better Access initiative aims to increase community access to mental health professionals and team-based mental health care. General practitioners are encouraged to work closely and collaboratively with Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Registered Psychologists and appropriately trained Social Workers and Occupational Therapists.
