Our new planning search will help you:
Identify permitted, rejected and undecided planning applications for a title and its neighbours.
Visualise applications adjacent to your property.
Sift through applications to find a relevant one.
Get an immediate understanding of what the application was for.
Be directed to the relevant local authority page to read more, view the constraints and access planning documents.
To check planning applications for a property or an area:
Select a title to open the title panel.
Click on the “planning” tab, the platform will automatically search for applications within a 5m radius of the selected title.
Toggle the radius slider to increase the search area (black dotted line) to include the surroundings or adjacent titles.
(Pro Tip - Remember to zoom out on the map as you increase the radius!)You can then search for keywords, sort, filter by decision or view a summary.
Click the "view in new tab" icon to open the relevant page on the authority portal and access more information, including documents.
Click the camera icon on the right-hand side to take a picture of the map.
Optional - You can export planning data into an excel spreadsheet.
Top tip: Increase the search radius to ensure you've captured everything. Given discrepancies in how planning applications are logged with local authorities, the locations of pins may not always appear precisely where they affect.
Where does planning application data come from?
This information comes from multiple sources who collect it directly via the Local Authority planning portals.
It is worth noting that different Local Authorities adopt different standards for geolocation accuracy, so sometimes the pin will appear on the exact location of the site of the planning application (e.g. the relevant corner of a property being developed) and sometimes the pin will just be generalised to the correct postcode and may appear several metres away from the site of the planning application.
The data is updated frequently, although it may take a week or so for a new application on the Local Authority website to start appearing in Orbital Witness.
