Summary

In late 2024, we were notified by the Queensland government that a reassessment had been made of business customers who had previously been considered ineligible for the National Energy Bill Relief rebate. We were advised that many business should now have payments applied retrospectively.

More info

The NEBR rebate amount was for a maximum of $650 for the financial year, allocated quarterly. The amount is non-taxable, with no GST.

This means we have applied a quarterly amount ($162.50) to you if your business was an Origin customer on:

  • 1 July 2023

  • I October 2023

  • 1 January 2024

  • 1 April 2024

Who became eligible

Some businesses who have business energy accounts with us but whose property has a residential meter were previously considered ineligible for this rebate. That has now been revised.

By now, this credit has been applied to your account

All eligible businesses in Queensland had this credit applied to their account between 25 and 29 November 2024.

You will see this credit listed on your next bill, most likely on page 2, described as โ€œQLD AUS Govt Energy Price Relief Plan Rebate (non-taxable, no GST).โ€

When you can request a refund

If your account had any amounts owing when this rebate was applied, the credit will be used to reduce this amount.

If your account had no amounts owing, and/or as a result of the rebate applied your account is now in credit, you can request a refund of the amount in credit. This can be paid into your nominated bank account.
