The primary account holder is the person whose name is on the energy account. This person is legally responsible for the Origin agreement and overall account, including any debts.

What a primary account holder can do

  • Sign Origin contracts, and renew or change

  • Add or remove joint account holders or authorised contacts

  • Add concessions details to their account to claim concessions. Note the concession card holder name and address must match the Origin account name and address.

  • Request refunds

  • Finalise accounts and cancel contracts

Reasons to change a primary account holder

You might need to change the primary account holder:

  • when a housemate moves out who was previously the primary account holder

  • if you're eligible for a concession but your concession details don't match the energy account

  • when someone dies and you're managing their estate
