Moving into a new property or want to take a self meter read? These tips will help find your gas or electricity meter.

If you're in a unit, standalone house, townhouse or warehouse you’ll most likely find your electricity, natural gas or hot water meter outside. If that's not the case for you, read the tips in this article for other places your meter might be.

When accessing your meter, take care and be safe. Sometimes meters are in awkward places or might be home to unfriendly guests.

Electricity meters

  • Check your hallway or laundry

  • Check the garage, porch or on an external wall

Gas meters

  • Check out the front of your place, close to the street

  • If you're in NSW, try under your kitchen sink

It's worth chatting with your body corporate, building manager or real estate agent. They're likely to know where your meter is.
