Queensland households are set to receive $1,000 off their electricity bills in 2024–25, thanks to the Queensland Government Cost of Living Rebate for Households.
Who’s eligible?
As long as you have your own metered electricity account at your residence (for example, if electricity is not included as part of your rent) on 1 July 2024, the Queensland rebate will be paid automatically into your electricity account after 1 July 2024. The timing of the rebate depends on when you receive your bill. There’s nothing you need to do.
The government electricity bill rebates are solely intended to ease the increased cost of living pressure on households and small business. Applying the payment directly to an essential service like electricity is one of the simplest and fairest ways to give relief to as many people as possible. See below for other concessions or rebates you could be eligible for.
Embedded networks and power cards
If your household uses card-operated electricity meters, you’ll also receive the rebate. The payment will be automatically transferred to your linked card in the same way it would be paid into an electricity account.
Are you in an embedded network (like a caravan park or body corporate) where you receive your own electricity bill? You’ll receive the rebate automatically into your electricity account.
However, your electricity supplier is required to apply for the rebate on your behalf, using the ‘Application for cost-of-living rebate 2024–25’ form. They can download the form from the Queensland Government website from 1 July 2024, and you can check this page for the link once it’s live.
The Queensland Government advises any embedded network customers who haven’t received their rebate by 31 December 2024 to contact their electricity supplier.
Other rebates and concessions for Queensland households
The Queensland cost-of-living rebate is in addition to the $300 electricity rebate for households in the federal government’s Energy Bill Relief Fund for 2024–25. The rebate will be paid in quarterly instalments of $75 after 1 July 2024. This means if you’re eligible for both rebates, you’ll receive a total rebate of $1,300 in the 2024–25 financial year.
If you hold a senior, pensioner or concession card, you could also be eligible for the $372 Queensland Electricity Rebate.
