Good to know
When you have a BYO modem, your modem may have different settings to work with your previous ISP's network. Even though your Origin internet service is active, the modem has yet to be configured to work with our network. However, we can't guarantee that once your BYO modem has been configured that it’ll work on our network based on whether:
you have the right hardware based on your connection type
if it’s locked to your previous provider
if your modem no longer meets nbn requirements.
As modems are always changing, we'll keep this page up to date.
Configure your BYO modem: FTTN and FTTB connections
Before you start
Check that your modem is VDSL2-compatible. ADSL modems do not work with FTTN/FTTB
If you have an ASUS modem, you must configure your ASUS modem (steps below) before inserting the DSL cable into the modem
For all other modems, connect a grey or beige cable from the telephone port into the DSL socket on back of your modem
Configure your modem
Link your computer or phone to the modem through wi-fi or with an ethernet cable. Here's a visual guide to help you:
Open a web browser like Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge on your computer or phone and enter your modem IP address into the address bar. This information is usually on a label on the modem
Log in to the device. Your log in details are usually on a label on the back of your router. You can also see common IP addresses below
After you’ve logged in, enter the FTTN/FTTB settings for your device's DSL connection as follows:
For this setting | Choose |
DSL Mode/Interface Type | VDSL |
Internet Connection Type | Dynamic or IPOE or DHCP |
VLAN ID | No VLAN ID |
Obtain IP Address | Automatically |
Enable SRA | If applicable |
ISP username/Password | Not required |
Internet Provider (or ISP) | Not listed or Other (if applicable) |
Leave all other settings at their default selections. |

5. Apply and save your modem settings. (If you have an ASUS modem, insert the DSL cable into the modem now.)
6. Turn off your modem and wait 15 minutes, then turn it back on

Configure your BYO modem: FTTP, FTTC, FW or HFC
Before you start
If you're transitioning from another provider and you're on FTTP or FW, you might need to change where you connect to the nbn box.
The ‘UNI-D’ labelled ports offer multiple options to connect to various services at the same time if you need to. We'll send you an email specifying the numbered port your modem should connect to.
