At the moment, you can request to submit your own meter read for your small business. Our request form lets you know immediately if your business is eligible.
Reading your own meter can sometimes result in some savings on your bill. And while social distancing requirements are in place and fewer meter readers on the road, doing your own meter reads can go a long way to help us work safely and efficiently.
Different read types
Submitting your own meter read will help ensure you are only billed for what you use. There are three types of readings we can use to issue your bill. Most of the time, we use them in this order:
An actual reading from your distributor (It's often the most accurate.)
If we don’t have an actual read from your distributor, we’ll use your self-meter read.
When we don't have an actual read or a self-meter read available, we'll use an estimated read from your distributor.
It's worth noting, you can only add self-meter reads up to 10 business days before your next scheduled meter read date or 14 business days after. Not sure when that is? It's 3 days before the date your next bill will be issued (you can see that on your Dashboard.
Not available for final meter reads
Keep in mind, we suggest this only for regular meter reads, not first or last meter reads. If you’re connecting or disconnecting, we’ll need to come out to you.
