Customers on a variable rate can view their current energy prices and rates by heading to our pricing page, entering your address and selecting the plan you're on. This will give you access to your specific plan's Energy Fact Sheet.
Price changes and your fixed rate plan
Customers on a fixed rate plan won’t see their energy prices increase during the life of their plan, regardless of any changes in the energy market. This includes any changes to the Default Market Offer (DMO) or Victorian Default Offer (VDO).
Why natural gas and electricity prices change
External factors influence whether we increase or decrease our prices, including:
Wholesale electricity or natural gas prices (the price Origin and other retailers pay to buy energy for our customers)
Environmental charges (costs Origin incur to source a certain amount of renewable energy, in line with obligations under the Renewable Energy Target and jurisdictional schemes)
Your distributor costs, also known as network costs
Changes in these costs are also usually reflected in the Default Market Offer (DMO) and Victorian Default Offer (VDO) (i.e., the maximum price that retailers can charge on standard contracts, set by the government).
What do I need to do to get the new prices?
If you’re already an Origin customer, you don’t need to do anything. If your prices are changing, you’ll be notified via email or mail, price changes will automatically be applied, and you’ll see them on your next bill after 1 July. Find your current rates and charges on the first page of your bill or you can simply view your plan details in your account.
Changes to solar feed-in tariffs (FIT)
For NSW, QLD, VIC and SA, we've made changes to our standard retailer FIT to reflect the reduction in wholesale electricity prices.
Solar Boost and Solar Boost Plus customers won’t see any changes to FIT rates. Your feed-in tariff will be the same one you signed up for. To find out more see:

Price changes, 1 July 2021
Exact price changes will vary across different locations with charges varying in different network areas, and for individual customers depending on what offer they are on – we’ll let each customer know about the price changes applying to them.
As an overview, natural gas prices for Origin’s customers across Queensland, New South Wales, ACT and South Australia will be increasing from 1 July mainly due to the higher cost of purchasing and transporting this gas to our customers.
Electricity prices for most of Origin’s residential variable rate customers across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia will decrease from 1 July mainly due to a reduction in the wholesale cost of electricity.
While electricity prices in ACT will increase from 1 July mainly due to an increase in network costs, customers will not see the full impact of network cost increases as some of this if offset by a decrease in wholesale electricity costs.
Price changes in Victoria, 1 Jan 2021
On 1 January 2021, new electricity prices were applied in VIC.
These applied to electricity charges for standard retail contracts and variable rate market contracts, and natural gas charges for standard retail contracts. On 1 February 2021 natural gas charges change for variable rate market contracts. Customers on fixed rate plans are not affected by rate changes during their energy plan term.
