What’s new with Spike

While things might look a little different from what you’re used to, one thing’s for sure – saving energy has never been more fun or rewarding!

For all our veteran Spike users, here’s a rundown of all the key changes we’ve made to help you get to know your new dashboard and everything that’s possible with our new and improved Spike.

We’ve also provided links to more in-depth Help and Support articles to get you started.

Goodbye points, hello Watts

Watts are the new Spike currency, where the energy you save is what you earn. Just like you could with points, you can earn Watts by reducing power in your home when you participate in a Spike event. For every 1kw of energy you save, you’ll be rewarded with 1000 Watts of currency to spend.

And don’t worry, when we transfer your points balance from the old Spike to the new Watts currency, you won’t lose any value.

Read more about Watts in Energy Watts and how you earn.

More ways to be rewarded

We’ve introduced more options for how you choose to redeem your hard-earned Watts by creating a Rewards Marketplace. Use Watts to enter prize draws, spend them on smart devices, or transform them into gift cards or PayPal Cash.

We’ve also introduced a new Spin to Win wheel, where you can spend 200W to score a discounted smart device, earn extra spins, or win a free entry into a prize competition.

Introducing AutoSpike events

Members with Spike-connected smart devices can now participate in automated energy-saving events! Unlike SpikeHours, these events require no manual effort on your part to earn Watts. Here’s how it works:

  • You’ll enrol your smart device to participate in AutoSpike events

  • You’ll receive an SMS 15 minutes before an AutoSpike begins

  • Your enrolled smart devices will be automatically switched off

  • After the event ends, your devices will turn back on

  • You can unenroll devices at any time.

What we’ve said goodbye to

The leader board is on hiatus. We’ve temporarily removed the leaderboard, but we might bring it back.

We’ve removed mega SpikeHours and streak bonuses for participating in consecutive events. Instead, we’ve introduced Surge Bonuses where you can score 2x, 3x or even 10x Watt multipliers in SpikeHours where there’s extreme stress on the grid.

Status level rewards have changed. Rather than earning a Watts percentage boost when you hit a new level, you’ll now receive a discount percentage that will apply to purchases in our Rewards Marketplace. The discount you receive will correspond to the average percentage of energy you save during an event.

A fresh new look

We’ve introduced tabs to make it easier to find things. Here’s a breakdown:
