What has happened
Tesla has raised a safety concern that affects Powerwall 2 batteries sold between November 2020 to June 2022. They have identified a battery cell defect with a batch of lithium-ion battery cells sourced from a third supplier. The affected battery cells may overheat, emitting smoke or flames, and pose a fire risk.
Not all Powerwall 2 batteries are affected. Check for a message in your Tesla app.
This issue doesn’t affect Powerwall 3 batteries.
