What Is the Orion Sleep System?

The basics on Orion

Orion is a smart sleep system designed to help you sleep more comfortably by actively managing the temperature of your bed throughout the night.

Instead of heating or cooling your entire room, Orion focuses on the place that matters most: your bed.

At its core, Orion allows you to set and maintain your ideal sleep temperature and can adapt over time based on how you sleep.

What Orion Does

Orion combines precise temperature control, sleep sensing, and automation to improve sleep comfort.

With Orion, you can:

  • Heat or cool your bed to your preferred temperature

  • Set different temperatures for the left and right sides of the bed

  • Schedule temperature changes for bedtime, nighttime, and wake up

  • Wake up using temperature rather than sound

  • Track sleep depth and interruptions in a non medical way

  • Allow the system to adapt to your preferences over time

Many customers think of Orion as a thermostat for their bed. You can set it once or actively adjust it whenever you want.

How Orion Works at a High Level

Orion consists of two main components.

1.) The Control Tower

The Control Tower is the brain and engine of the system. It heats and cools water, circulates temperature controlled water to the bed, processes sleep and system data, connects to the Orion mobile app, and makes rapid temperature decisions.

The Control Tower sits next to your bed and operates quietly throughout the night.

2.) The Smart Cover

The Smart Cover fits over your mattress like a fitted sheet. It circulates warm or cool water through internal channels, supports independent temperature control on the left and right sides of the bed, and contains passive sleep sensing technology that detects sleep depth and interruptions.

Sleep sensing data is sent back to the Control Tower to inform temperature adjustments. You'll place your own fitted sheet over the Smart Cover just like normal bedding to keep the cover clean and tidy.

Temperature Control Explained

Orion allows personalized temperature control for each side of the bed, recognizing that sleep temperature preferences vary significantly from person to person.

The Control Tower cools and heats the water it circulates to anywhere between 50°F and 115°F, independently for each side of the bed.

Temperatures can be adjusted manually or through schedules in the Orion app. By default, temperature is shown using a relative scale from minus ten to plus ten, but users can also choose to view exact temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celsius. Heating and cooling happen gradually to maintain comfort rather than sudden or disruptive changes.

Personalized Temperature From Day One

Some customers choose to use an optional product called the Sleep Test to further personalize their experience.

The Sleep Test uses a small wearable sleep patch that is worn for one night. You activate the patch in the app right before bed and scan it in the morning. Overnight, the patch collects sleep related temperature data and other sleep signals to help understand how an individual's body responds to temperature.

This test can be used:

  • Before purchasing Orion

  • At the time of ordering Orion

  • Before or after setting up the Orion system

How Sleep Test Data Is Used

When a customer completes the Sleep Test, the data from the test is securely uploaded to their Orion profile.

If the test is completed before setting up the system, Orion uses this data during setup to automatically program initial temperature preferences, schedules, and baseline comfort settings. This allows the system to start in a state that is already tailored to how the customer sleeps, rather than relying on generic defaults.

If the test is completed after Orion has already been set up, the data can still be applied to the user profile to further refine temperature behavior and personalization.

The Sleep Test can be completed for:

  • A single individual

  • Two people sharing a bed, such as a customer and a partner

When two people complete the test, each person's data is applied independently to their assigned side of the bed. This allows Orion to be programmed specifically for each sleeper, even when temperature preferences or sleep patterns differ.

Ongoing Learning Over Time

The Sleep Test is optional, and Orion works fully without it. Orion continues to learn and adapt over time based on how you sleep and how you interact with the system.

For customers who choose to use it, the Sleep Test simply provides a more personalized starting point, helping Orion feel dialed in from the very first night.

Orion tracks sleep using passive sensors built directly into the Smart Cover, so there is nothing to wear and nothing to charge. These sensors continuously collect data while you sleep and send that information to the Control Tower for analysis.

Using this data, Orion identifies patterns related to sleep depth, sleep continuity, and nighttime interruptions. The system looks at how long you spend in different phases of sleep, how often your sleep is disrupted, and how your sleep changes over time. This information is used both to improve temperature behavior and to generate sleep insights you can view in the app.

Sleep Insights in the Orion App

Within the Orion app, customers can review sleep insights that summarize how they slept on a given night and how their sleep trends over time. These insights are designed to be easy to understand and useful for reference rather than overly technical.

Sleep insights may include:

  • General sleep depth and sleep quality indicators

  • Nighttime interruptions or restlessness

  • Trends across multiple nights

  • How sleep patterns change in response to temperature settings or schedules

This allows customers to better understand their sleep habits and see how adjustments to temperature or schedules affect their rest.

How Sleep Data Is Used

Sleep tracking data serves two purposes. First, it gives customers visibility into how they are sleeping, allowing them to reference patterns and trends over time. Second, it helps Orion refine temperature behavior to better support comfort throughout the night.

Orion does not diagnose medical conditions and is not a medical device. Sleep data is used only to provide insights and improve the sleep experience.

Over time, as more data is collected, Orion becomes better at understanding individual sleep patterns and supporting more consistent comfort night after night.

App Controlled and Automated

Orion is controlled through the Orion mobile app on iOS and Android. The app is required to use the system.

Through the app, you can:

  • Set temperatures and schedules

  • Assign left and right sides and add a partner or guest

  • Configure temperature wake up alarms

  • Enable Away Mode or Guest Mode

  • View sleep insights and system status

You can actively manage your settings or let Orion run automatically night after night.

What Orion Is Not

To set clear expectations, Orion does not heat or cool your entire room. It does not replace your mattress. It does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. It does not require you to wear anything while sleeping.

Orion is designed to integrate into your existing sleep setup rather than replace it.

Who Orion Is For

Orion is designed for people who sleep hot or cold, couples with different temperature preferences, anyone who wants better sleep comfort without changing room temperature, and people looking for a more personalized and adaptive sleep environment.

In Summary

Orion is a smart water based sleep system that controls bed temperature rather than room temperature. It adapts to how you sleep, works quietly in the background, and helps you sleep more comfortably night after night.
