Q: What is the difference between OSTREON Inheritance and a digital safe?

With Ostreon Inheritance, you can securely and privately pass on information about your assets, access, certificates of ownership, documents, and more to your beneficiaries.

As an inheritance solution, you can associate beneficiaries with each asset, set priorities, and ensure that they will gain access automatically in the event of an unforeseen occurrence.

A digital safe, on the other hand, is used solely for storing data.

Q: How is my data secure?

Cybersecurity is our foremost expertise and our highest priority. We have designed the platform around the principles of Zero Trust and Zero Knowledge, coupled with Quantum-Proof encryption. Your data is transmitted and stored in an encrypted and anonymized form on our servers, rendering it unreadable and inaccessible to third parties—including the OSTREON team and governmental authorities. Only you possess the private key (generated using your password), granting you exclusive ability to read and modify your data.

Your beneficiaries will be able to decrypt only the information you designate to them, and only at the specified time, using a special private key built out of information they will receive automatically by OSTREON, and information only they know + their email as 2FA.

Your data is safeguarded using the AES-256 encryption algorithm—the most effective algorithm available to date. Decrypting AES-256 encrypted data with today's technology would take several hundred years, and we are committed to continuously updating our platform with the latest encryption mechanisms as they emerge.

Q: How does the automated inheritance work?

OSTREON Inheritance is based on the `dead man switch` principle.

Once you set up your OSTREON Inheritance preferences, the platform will send you `Keep Alive`` notifications either via email or through our upcoming mobile application at your chosen frequency. If you fail to respond, the system will increase the notification frequency to daily. For example, if you opt for a 30-day notification cycle and missed your `Keep Alive` notification, the platform will prompt you on a daily basis to acknowledge the `Keep Alive` notification until the time you've specified for your first beneficiary to gain access.

Your beneficiaries will be automatically informed via email (and soon by phone, if you opt for this option) and will be guided securely to the OSTREON Beneficiaries' portal using a unique link and identifier provided to them. Only your beneficiaries will have access to your information when the time comes. The OSTREON team do not have access at any time to the identification details of your beneficiaries, and neither to their email inbox access for their 2FA, which is needed to decrypt the data you assigned to them

Q: What is the legal status of OSTREON Inheritance?

OSTREON Inheritance platform allows you to share information about your assets with your beneficiaries. This enables them to pursue their legal claim to these assets by adhering to the inheritance procedures mandated in your country—or occasionally, in the country where the assets are situated. However, merely sharing information about your assets does not confer legal ownership. For questions concerning the eligibility of a specific heir to inherit a particular asset, it's advisable to consult the prevailing legislation in your jurisdiction with the assistance of a notary or lawyer, and if required, make the necessary testamentary provisions.

OSTREON Inheritance simplifies this process for your beneficiaries by apprising them of your assets and attaching the pertinent documentation for each.

You might also consider uploading your will to the platform and adding the contact details of your notary or lawyer in a dedicated section. This ensures that when the time comes, all your beneficiaries will be informed of your final wishes and can contact your notary/lawyer accordingly.

Q: What is the difference between OSTREON Inheritance and a notary/lawyer?

A notary/lawyer executes a will, if one exists, and explains the obligations of the estate.

They might search for assets belonging to the deceased, such as real estate and bank accounts, but this isn't necessarily their specialty.

In today's context, a notary/lawyer may not be equipped to assist beneficiaries in locating all of your assets if the beneficiaries aren't already aware of them, if they lack your proof of ownership, don't have access to certain assets like cryptocurrency, NFTs, specific real estate properties, overseas assets, company shares, documents, pictures and files with sentimental or emotional value, and so forth.

Furthermore, it's never advisable to share the recovery phrase of your digital and web-3 assets, including with anyone — not even your notary/lawyer. In such scenarios, you will require an automated and secure inheritance system like OSTREON Inheritance to pass on information and provide access about your digital assets.

Q: What happens if I forgot my password?

The self-recovery function is designed for situations where you forget your password. Given our commitment to the ` zero knowledge ` concept, <b>we're unaware of the password you use to generate your private key, making it impossible for us to reset it if you forgot your password.

OSTREON Inheritance provides you with emergency access a few days before your primary beneficiary gains platform access. You can adjust this timeline as needed. This emergency access lets you retrieve your backup login and regain access to your account, as well as changing your password.

Q: I already have a notary/lawyer, do I need OSTREON Inheritance?

Yes. In today's digitalized world, our digital assets hold increasing sentimental and financial value for both us and our beneficiaries. OSTREON Inheritance facilitates the secure transfer of access and information to your assets that may not be easily accessible otherwise as these are often protected by passwords or security phrases (for crypto assets) known only to you. Such assets might therefore be unfamiliar to your notary/lawyer and, in some cases, may not even be registered or traceable by them.

With OSTREON Inheritance, you can guarantee the safe and secure transfer of information of both your digital and tangible assets to your beneficiaries when the time comes. You retain full control over your information and inheritance preferences, and you can update them whenever you wish.

Q: What type of assets can I list in OSTREON?

You can insert any asset you own to OSTREON Inheritance that you wish to securely pass on to your beneficiaries. Each asset can contain information, credentials, and private documents or files you'd like your beneficiaries to be aware of.

Below are some examples, but this list is by no means exhaustive:

  • Will and last wishes

  • Private keys or crypto wallet recovery phrases

  • Certificates of ownership and registration documents (real estate, investment account, bank accounts abroad)

  • Access to online content (usernames/passwords), password manager access (or backup of your password manager)

  • Health documents

  • Banking access and documents

  • Company share plans, retirement savings plans

  • Savings plans

  • Insurance contracts (including life insurance)

  • Stocks, bonds, contracts (Metals, wine, precious, art, and any other)

  • Cherished memories (photos and videos)

  • A map indicating the location of a hidden treasure ;)

The platform supports all digital formats.
