Setting up Mobile App Conversion Tracking With Kochava
Updated over 2 months ago

Kochava is a mobile analytics and attribution platform. You can use Kochava to track users’ actions in your mobile app and report on those tracking actions in your Outbrain DSP campaigns via a Server-to-Server (S2S) conversion definition.

Setup Guide

Add a new conversion definition in Outbrain DSP by following these steps:

  • Step 1: Navigate to the Conversions tab from the main menu.

  • Step 2: Click on the + Add new conversion definition to open up the setup dialogue window.

  • Step 3: Give your conversion definition a name and description, select the account on which S2S conversion tracking will be used, select the Outbrain DSP Pixel for your account, and select the nature of events to be tracked (this value is of informative nature only).

  • Step 4: Define the method for triggering conversions.

In this case, select Server to Server. Tick the box "Treat all received events as already attributed conversions" if the events sent via S2S are already attributed on your or a third-party server and you do not want the DSP to attribute any. In this case, skip to Step 6. Type in the Event name used for this conversion.

  • Step 5: Define Attribution Rules.

  • Step 6: Click the Save button.

  • Step 7: Further instructions will appear, as shown in the image below.

Setting up Postback URL in Kochava Dashboard

1. In the Kochava dashboard, select Links > Campaign Manager.

2. Click Add a Tracker (here, you will also define the Default Destination URL).

3. Enter a name for the tracker.

4. Select Tracker Type > Acquisition.

5. Select Outbrain DSP as the Media Partner.

Sample URL:

PLEASE NOTE: The following URL should be used as the ad URL since the campaign_id parameter defined by Kochava is necessary to specify the app name: https://control.kochava.com/v1/cpi/click?campaign_id=myapp-ios-123456789

6. Share the events you’d like to track after postback URLs have been created.

If you want the Kochava integration to work with Outbrain DSP, provide the identifiers Kochava needs on the postback calls to access this postback: Account ID and Pixel ID. We name them Outbrain DSP Tag ID and Event Name. You can access this information when adding a new conversion definition (see the image above).

7. Navigate to the Partner Configuration tab in the left side menu.

8. Click on the Edit Postback: Install button.

9. Name your app.

10. Fill in the information on Account ID and Pixel ID.

11. Click the Save button.

12. Now, you need to create a Postback.

13. Choose a Delivery method. Would you want Kochava to send all conversions to the DSP or just the ones that you defined in the DSP conversion definition?

14. Click the Save button again.

You or your CSM representative will create the campaign based on the Kochava tracker URL.
