What are Signal Criteria and how I can add more?

Signal Criteria are pre-built filters that automatically flag high-value customers—influencers, executives, celebrities, retail buyers, and more—based on publicly available data. Flagged customers appear with a gold star in your Signal Feed.

Default Criteria

Every account includes these eight criteria by default:

Renowned Industry Expert

Known Investor / Wealth Manager / UHNW

Known investors, wealth managers, fund managers, or ultra high net-worth individuals

Immediate family of a highly-known public figure or celebrity

Executive Assistant to a Public Figure

Filtering by Signal Criteria

  • Open the Signal Feed and click Show Filters.

  • Select Signal Criteria from the filter dropdown.

  • Choose one or more criteria. The feed updates in real time.

You can combine Signal Criteria with other filters (age, location, Persona, follower count, LTV, etc.) and save the result as a Segment. From there, create a Playbook to automate actions like Slack alerts, Klaviyo tags, or Shopify tags.

Custom Criteria

Need to flag a customer type that isn’t covered by the defaults—like doctors, professional athletes, veterinarians, or retail buyers in a specific vertical? We can add custom Signal Criteria to your account. Just email your OuterSignal contact or reach out via in-app chat with what you’d like, and we’ll set it up for you.

Custom criteria work exactly like the defaults—they appear in the same dropdown, are applied retroactively to existing profiles, and are evaluated automatically on every new order.
