How do I account for new landscape features that aren't yet visible on the base map?

Sometimes, changes to a farm might outpace the rate at which our base map provider, Map Box, updates their satellite imagery. In these cases, users may want to account for or work around new fields, ponds, or other landscape features, but these features are not yet visible on the map.

One solution to this problem is to utilize an external map provider with up-to-date satellite imagery (e.g. Google Earth Pro) to draw the new landscape features, which can then be imported to Overyield as layers.

Two preconditions for importing layers:

  • The files must be formatted as KML's.

  • The imported file's attributes must match the layer type's attributes (e.g. buildings and ponds must be imported as polygons, while fences and ridges must be imported as paths).
