Whether you've mapped out your farm design in QGIS or Google Earth Pro, geo-tagged layers or treepoints using a GPS tracker, or downloaded soil data via SSURGO, there are countless use cases that may require importing geospatial data to Overyield.

Both Layers and Sections can be imported to Overyield. The article that follows walks you through the requirements for their successful importation.

Importing Sections and Rows to Overyield

Preconditions for importing Sections and Rows:

  • The geospatial data must be formatted as KML files.

  • To import section names or auto-assign species in bulk, the rows should adhere to the following naming conventions:

    • "Farmsection: Section Name, Rowname: Integer, Species: Blackcurrant"

      • Note: In order to import rows with a crop species attached, the crop template must already be assigned to an existing sections/rows.

To upload sections/rows to Overyield:

1. In QGIS, Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS, or another GIS platform, re-name your sections and rows according to the aforementioned naming conventions (Note: this is only necessary if you would like the auto-imported sections to be named and crop species to be assigned; otherwise, files do not need to be named).

2. Export the file in KML format.

3. In Overyield, click New Section in your Design Toolbar, then click Upload in the dropdown.

4. Select your KML file. Press Open.

Importing Layers to Overyield

Preconditions for importing layers:

  • The geospatial data must be formatted as a KML file.

  • The KML file’s data attributes must match the layer attributes (e.g. buildings must be polygons, contour maps must contain Digital Elevation Model data in vector format, fences must be paths, etc.)

To import a Layer:

  1. In the Design Toolbar, click New Layer, then select the Layer type you would like to import.

  2. Click Import KML.

  3. Select the KML file you would like to upload, then click Open.
