Open the Theme Editor
There are two ways to open the Theme Editor from inside the app:
From the My Sections Page
Look for the Theme Editor card at the top of the page
Click the Customize in dropdown
Pick any theme — published, unpublished, or draft
The Shopify Theme Editor opens in a new tab
From the Home Page
In the setup guide, click Open Theme Editor on Step 2.
Place the Section on a Page
Installing a section adds the code to your theme, but you still need to place it where you want it to appear:
In the Theme Editor, navigate to the page where the section should appear (Home, Product, Collection, etc.)
Click Add section in the sidebar
Find your newly installed section in the list and click it
Drag it into the position you want
Click Save at the top right
Customize Colors, Text, and Images
After placing the section, click on it in the preview. The sidebar shows every available customization option — text, images, colors, spacing, button labels, links, and so on. Adjust whatever you want and click Save.
Test Before Going Live
If you don't want to edit your published theme directly, install the section on a draft or unpublished theme first. From the Customize in dropdown in My Sections, pick the unpublished theme — make your edits, preview, and only publish when you're happy.
Advanced: Edit the Code Directly
If you're comfortable with Liquid, you can edit the section's code directly:
Go to Online Store → Themes in your Shopify admin
Click Actions → Edit code on your theme
Open
sections/<your-section-name>.liquid
However, we recommend doing customization through the Theme Editor whenever possible — it's safer and won't affect future section updates.
Section Doesn't Appear in the Editor?
Make sure you selected the correct theme when adding the section in My Sections
Refresh the Theme Editor (close and reopen)
Some sections only work on specific page types (e.g. product pages) — try the right page
