If you're anything like me, you get excited to check out a new golf course. You'll pull up GPS information or cruise through the website to get an idea of the layout and start strategizing. Maybe you're trying to decide which club makes it into the bag between that driving iron or the hybrid. Or maybe you want to know whether to favor the left or the right on that tough dogleg.

Thats exactly why I added the Explore Mode to PAR Golf. Explore Mode gives you complete freedom to navigate the golf course. Key features:

  1. Point of Interest (POI) Mode - Tap for distances between any points on the golf course. Width of the fairway, width of the green, distance to the dogleg, etc.

  2. Target Mode - Tap or drag anywhere to get suggested clubs and dispersions overlaid to plan your shots

  3. Shotlink-like data for Others - See where others who have used PAR Golf have hit their shots and what they scored.

  4. Hole difficulty - See the average score for each hole from the PAR Golf community

  5. PAR Golf Course Record - See the lowest score shot by the PAR Golf community on the golf course. No score... set the record in your round!

  6. Elevation change and current weather information

  7. Tee box locations

How do you get to Explore Mode? It's easy. Follow these steps:

  1. From the PAR Golf home screen, select 'Play' to bring up the course list.

  2. Search for or select the course you would like to explore.

  3. Select 'Explore' at the bottom of the Round Setup screen.

Use the mode button in the bottom left to switch between POI mode and Target Mode:

  • POI Mode - Tap anywhere on the map to add a POI. Adding consecutive POIs will give the distance between those two points. Add as many POIs as you like. To remove a POI, simply tap it. Long press and drag to move a POI. Change holes to quickly remove all POIs.

  • Target mode - Tapping the screen will give you a distance from the last POI (or the tee box by default) to the location you tap. You can long press and drag the target to change location. Recommended club and club dispersion will be overlaid as you move the target around.
Tip: If target is showing distances off the screen, add a POI to the start location... then switch back to target mode to get distances.
