Using interactions

Throughout your course, you will likely be asking your learner to actively do something (e.g. upload, share, reflect, post) to share the progress of their learning (i.e. formative assessments) or share the mastery/proficiency of the content in the course to earn a badge (i.e. summative assessment). Each time you ask for active engagement, you will design an Interaction.

The content that learners submit in interactions will appear in their final learning products associated with the course. This content will be reviewable by a Mentor, if you choose to add a Mentor to the course.

To insert an interaction:

  1. Click on the [+] symbol.
  2. Click [Interaction].
  3. Input a title for your interaction and the name of the call to action. The title will appear above the interaction once inserted, and the call to action will be the name of the button on the interaction (e.g. Submit Your Work or Submit Your Reflection).

Activities tab in Interactions

  • Name of Section - describes what you would like the learner to input (ex. Reflection)
  • Header/Footer: add an optional header and footer to your interaction, this can be reminder notes or a little more detail

Add Input section in Interactions

There are three different input options you can choose from:

  • Text - Use when you're looking for your learner to a) type in a short response; b) copy and paste a URL to a collection; c) copy and paste a URL to another online resource.
  • Paragraph - Same idea as a text interaction but with a larger text box. It's perfect for reflections.
  • File - Use when you're looking for your learner to a) upload a video; b) upload an audio file or podcast; 3) upload an image; 4) upload a non-online resource (e.g. PDF, word, PPT). Make users aware of size limitations when uploading large files!

Additional information:
Once you've decided on your desired interaction, you can fill in the text boxes with relevant information:

  • Title: describes the interaction (e.g., 'Student Work,' 'Reflection,' 'Collection').
  • Label: Same as title;  helpful for Mentors as they review submitted coursework.

Adding sections in Interactions:

  • You can add more sections or inputs to any section you create.
  • Click the [Add Section] to add another section or the [Add Input] button to add another input.
  • Delete unwanted sections by clicking [Remove Section]. Inputs can be removed by clicking the trash can symbol.
