If you are writing a comment or reply in a community discussion, you can enhance your post with formatted text, images, links and file attachments. This article will highlight the features available to help you customize your discussion post.

Adding Attachments

To upload a file to your comment post, look for the 'paperclip' icon in the bottom left of the comment box toolbar.

After you click this icon, a pop-up window will appear to allow you to select a file from your device to attach to your post. Click the download symbol there to search for your file, or drag-n-drop the file from your desktop.

If you'd like to share a link in a discussion, start by copying the website address from the toolbar of your web browser. Next, return to the discussion and click on the 'chainlink' icon in the bottom of the comment toolbar.

A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to paste the website link that you'd like to share.

Note: if you are linking to a file located on Google Drive, you'll see a notification to guide you to check the visibility settings on your file. When sharing any Google Drive file on the web, we recommend making sure that 'Anyone with the link can view'. Click here to learn how to configure Google Doc settings to share on the web.

Adding Images

To upload and add an image file to your discussion post, click on the 'picture' icon in the comment toolbar.

A pop-up window will appear, allowing you to select a file from your device. Discussion posts can include images in GIF, JPG, or PNG format.

Pro Tip: Animated GIFs can be inserted into most web-based tools that support GIF images? Try adding some spice to your comments by adding animated GIFs!


Resizing Images

Images can be resized while being posted to or after being posted to a Discussion Comment or Reply.

To resize an image before posting it to a discussion, hover over the image to turn its border a dark blue. Drag the circle in the bottom right corner of the image out to enlarge the image or pull it in to decrease its size. Click the blue [Post] button to add the image to the Discussion or Discussion Comment.

You can also resize an image after you have added it to a Discussion or Discussion Comment. Click the context menu (3 dots) that appear just above your posted comment and choose Edit. Hover over the image to turn its border a dark blue. Drag the circle in the bottom right corner of the image out to enlarge the image or pull it in to decrease its size. Click the Blue [Save] button.

Removing Attachments, Links or Images

If you change your mind, after uploading or attaching a file, link or image, then you can remove or delete an item before publishing to the discussion. Look for the small, 'trashcan' icon in the top-right corner of your attachment (highlighted below in yellow).


Formatting Text

Get fancy and help your readers gain more context by adding formatting to your comment text. The formatting icons in the comment toolbar allow you to bold or italicize your text for emphasis. You can also structure your comment by creating bulleted or numbered lists. Check out these icons in the comment toolbar.

Posting your comment

When you're ready, click the [Post] button to share your comment, including images, links, and/or attachments, to the discussion!
