Once you have created one or more groups in your community, to focus on a subject area, time-bound experience, or expertise type, you are likely to want to communicate with each group in specific ways. This article will show you ways to communicate with your groups!


Send an announcement from a Group

  1. Go to the Manage community tab on the left-hand side of your community.

  2. Click on the [Groups] button and select the group you wish to communicate to.

  3. Click on the [Announcement] button to create a new group announcement.

From inside the new announcement, you can select one or more groups in your community to whom to publish your announcement.

Past announcements sent to group members will continue to be visible even if an individual is removed from a group. You can publish the same announcement to other groups in the future, by selecting each group from the 'Publish to:' list and clicking the [Update Post] button in the Announcement editor tool.

You can also send group announcements from [Manage community] --> [Announcement] – all announcement drafts will allow you to select your audience–whole community or group(s)). Read more in our article about creating community announcements.

Create a Group Discussions

  1. Go to the Manage community tab on the left-hand side of your community.

  2. Click on the [Groups] button and select the group you wish to communicate to.

  3. Click on the [Discussions] menu, along the left-hand side.

  4. Click the [+New] button to create a new discussion. From there, you can create a discussion as you normally would for your community.

All group members, including admins, can create discussions from the members view of the groups dashboard, as well. Click here to read more about creating discussions.

Who can see these group announcements and discussions?

All members of your group can see all announcements and discussions posted to the group. Non group members cannot. It's that simple!
