How does Particle use my location?
Updated over 4 months ago

By default, our location data is broad. This means Particle only knows the general region you’re in rather than your precise location; for instance, you may see stories from neighboring cities or towns that are still relevant to your area.

Particle uses your location to enhance your experience by prioritizing nearby stories and helping you discover relevant local content.

If you prefer a more accurate experience, enabling location access allows us to tailor content or services within roughly a 1-kilometer radius (0.62 miles*) of your general area. This is the least precise location available from your device, based on decimal places for latitude and longitude that allow only regional customization. It won’t pinpoint your specific block or street address.

*These numbers are a standard level of precision for mobile apps

Particle does not share your location with other users.
