To access an analysis of a Chain, you'll first need to use the Chain Search to find and select it. This article gives a short walkthrough, offering hints and tips along the way.

What this article covers

  • Selecting a recently viewed analysis

  • Searching for a chain and then selecting a location

  • Searching for a location and then selecting a chain

Selecting a Recently Viewed Chain

If you've already visited an analysis page and want to jump back in, you can use the Recently Viewed list in the side panel. When you first load the Chain search, the five most recently visited Chains will appear.

Searching for a chain and then selecting a location

If you know which Chain you're interested in, you can use the search box in the side panel to search for it by name. As you type, results will appear below.

Filtering your analysis by location

Once you've selected the Chain you're interested in, you can filter by location to see how the Chain is performing in that area. By default, USA will be selected - you can click the Analyze button to jump into a nationwide analysis.

Alternatively, you can use the location search box on the map to get a more specific analysis. Currently you're able to search for any state or city in the USA to analyze all of the Chain's stores in that location.

Once you're happy with the Chain and the location, select the Analyze button on the map to load your analysis.

Searching for a location and then selecting a chain

If you know the location you're interested in, but want to understand what Chains are active in that area, you can search by location instead.

Use the location search box on the map to select a city, a state, or to load all Chains in the USA. Once you've selected a location, Chains in that area will load in the side panel.

Finding a chain within your selected area

Once you've selected a location, Top Chains will load in the side panel. From here, you have a few ways to search for a Chain.

  • Search by name. Use the search box in the side panel to see if a specific Chain is active within your selected location.

  • Category. Use the Filter by category button in the side panel to display all Chain type, e.g. Quick Serve, Specialty Retail, Gas Stations.

  • Size. Use the Sort by button in the side panel to sort Chains by Place count and see the stores with the largest footprint.

These options should enable you to find the most relevant Chain for your query. Once you've found it, simply click the Chain in the side panel to reveal the Analyze button on the map. Clicking this will take you straight to the Chain analysis page.
