In Almanac, percentile ranks are often used to provide a way to compare rankings between different Chains.

For example, ranking 500th would be great for a McDonald’s restaurant (with over 14,000 restaurants across the country), but would be dire for a Lululemon (with 508 stores in the US). How can we efficiently compare rankings across chains?

That's where percentile ranks comes in.

A percentile rank indicates the percentage of stores that have that score or lower. If a store was in the 90th percentile, it means that the number of visits was equal to or higher than 90% of other stores in that chain.
