How to transition your cat to Pawy fresh food

The complete cat method, day by day: what to expect, how to serve the first meal, what to do if your cat hesitates, and how to reset if nothing works.

Cats are creatures of habit and suspicious of anything new. That is biology, not a sign that Pawy is wrong for your cat. About 3 cats out of 10 accept Pawy on the first try, and 8 out of 10 with the method below.

Pawy is made with fresh meat and 100% natural ingredients, so it smells and tastes nothing like industrial cat food. Your cat needs a moment to recognise it as food at all.

What to expect

  • Timeline. 24 hours to a couple of weeks. Both are normal.

  • Age matters. Younger cats adapt faster.

  • No rush. Unused portions keep up to 4 months in the freezer.

  • The trial box is built for this. Enough meals and enough time for your cat to come around at their own pace.

Before you start

  • Start with Chicken if you included it in your trial box. It has the best acceptance rate with cats, then Pork, Beef and Fish.

  • Stick to one recipe for the first few days. Familiarity builds confidence.

  • No treats during the transition. They blunt appetite and encourage picky habits.

  • Feed at set times. Food left out all day kills your cat's appetite cycle.

Day 1: the first 24 hours

  1. Feed only Pawy. No treats, no other food.

  2. Serve 25% of the daily portion on a plate, not a deep bowl and not their usual one, in a slightly different spot. Most cats prefer this.

  3. Warm it to body temperature, around 37°C. For this first meal, pre-heat rather than serving it straight from the fridge. Cats eat with their nose before their mouth, and warmth releases the aroma. About 10 seconds in the microwave at 600W, then stir.

  4. Nothing eaten after an hour? Put the plate back in the fridge and try again later. Do not leave it out.

  5. Eaten straight away? Keep going with Pawy and serve the remaining 75% across three more small meals that day.

Day 2: your cat is eating Pawy

  • Keep going with Pawy only. No need to bring the old food back.

  • Stay on the same recipe for a few more days.

  • Serve around 25% of the daily intake at a time, a couple of times a day. Large portions feel overwhelming.

  • Keep warming it slightly.

  • After 2 to 3 days of consistent eating, start introducing the other recipes.

Day 2: your cat did not eat Pawy

Do this in the morning, when your cat is hungriest.

  1. Serve their old food as usual, regular bowl and regular spot, but only 25% of the usual amount.

  2. Place a small amount of Pawy beside it in the same bowl, not mixed in.

  3. If your cat eats the Pawy, repeat across three meals that day, then increase the Pawy share over the next 3 to 5 days.

  4. If your cat eats the old food and ignores the Pawy, that is still progress. They are associating the smell of Pawy with mealtime.

  5. Remove uneaten Pawy after one hour and return it to the fridge.

If nothing has worked after 5 days

  • Take a break. Pause your meal plan or delay your next delivery.

  • Reset the environment. Feed your cat in a different room during the break.

  • Restart from Day 1 after 3 days.

  • Try a different recipe. Some cats are not chicken cats. Pork and Beef smell stronger and can be far more tempting.

More things that help

Think about the season. Appetite rises in colder months and drops in warmer ones. In summer, a little cold water makes the meal more enticing. In winter, warm it.

Read your cat. Some want the routine kept identical, with no hovering. Others want a lookout: sitting nearby or stroking them helps them feel safe, especially in homes with other animals.

Feed multiple cats separately. Some prefer to eat alone, and it lets each one form their own opinion. Cats also mirror each other.

Ate Pawy, then stopped? Stay on the same recipe for several meals and let familiarity build.

Storing meals during the transition

  • Sealed meals keep 7 days in the fridge at around 4°C, or up to 4 months in the freezer.

  • Once opened, finish within 3 days, kept sealed and refrigerated.

  • Do not refreeze once the sealed bag has been opened.
